At the Movies: June 18 / 25

The remake of Get Smart is one of the next movies to be reviewed by David & Margaret on the ABC. Steve Carrell and Anne Hathaway, plus director Pete Segal, will be interviewed (the two stars will also studio guests on Rove’s MovieWorld edition June 22). I’m hoping this feature is better than the big screen version made by Don Adams himself. “The Nude Bomb”….was a bomb…

The Incredible Hulk is another television show getting (yet) another remake. It is reviewed next week. Other films coming up include Kung Fu Panda, The Happening, Unfinished Sky, Hope and Mike Leigh’s Happy Go Lucky.

Wed June 18
1. The Incredible Hulk – starring Edward Norton and Liv Tyler
2. The Happening – directed by M. Night Shyamalan and starring Mark Wahlberg
3. Kung Fu Panda + interview – with directors Mark Oborne and John Stevenson and actors Jack Black, Dustin Hoffman and Angelina Jolie
4. Hope
6. Unfinished Sky – starring Willam McInnes + interview

Wed June 25
Get Smart + interview with Steve Carrell, Anne Hathaway and director Pete Segal. Maxwell Smart (Carell) is on a mission to thwart the latest plot for world domination by the evil crime syndicate known as KAOS. When the headquarters of U.S. spy agency Control is attacked and the identities of its agents compromised, the Chief (Arkin) has no choice but to promote his ever-eager analyst Maxwell Smart, who has always dreamt of working in the field alongside stalwart superstar Agent 23 (Johnson). Smart is partnered instead with the lovely-but-lethal veteran Agent 99 (Hathaway). Given little field experience and even less time, Smart—armed with nothing but a few spy-tech gadgets and his unbridled enthusiasm—must thwart the doomsday plans of KAOS head Siegfried (Stamp).

Happy-Go-Lucky + interview with Mike Leigh. Poppy (Sally Hawkins) is an irrepressibly cheerful primary school teacher who won’t let anyone or anything get her down. Even when her bicycle, which she so happily rides through the busy streets of London , is stolen, her first thought is only: “I didn’t even get a chance to say goodbye.”Living with her flatmate Zoe (Alexis Zegerman), Poppy has a gift formaking the most of life. Determined to learn to drive, she finds herself matched with Scott (Eddie Marsan), an uptight driving instructor who is everything she is not. From Director Mike Leigh HAPPY-GO-LUCKY is a laugh-out-loud comedy about having fun, looking for love and getting on with life.

The Band’s Visit + interview with writer/director Eran Kolirin. Starring Sasson Gabai, Saleh Bakri, Ronit Elkabetz. The Alexandria Ceremonial Police Orchestra arrives in Israel from Egypt for a cultural event, only to find there is no delegation to meet them, nor any arrangements to get to their destination of Petah Tiqva. When they find their own ride, they arrive instead at the remote town of Beit Hatikva . Stuck there until the next morning’s bus, the band, lead by the repressed Tawfiq Zacharaya, gets help from the worldly Dina, who offers to put them up for the night. What follows is a special night of quiet happenings and confessions as the band makes its impact on the town, and the town on them.

At the Movies airs 10pm Wednesdays on ABC1.
