Aussies for new Fox TV series

Australia’s Chris Vance (All Saints, Prison Break) has landed a starring role in Fox TV Studio’s 13-part drama, Mental.

He plays a rebellious psychiatrist in a Los Angeles mental health hospital whose unorthodox treatments unnerve staff and management. Jacqueline McKenzie also has a role.

The drama is one of several new internationally produced projects by Fox TV Studios, being made in Colombia. It will screen on Fox Intl. Channels across Latin America, Europe and Asia and be pitched to US networks. Along with some new reality being shot in new territories, it represents something of a production shift by US studios.

“In the challenging economics of the television business in the US you’ve got to be able to offer superior creativity at a reduced cost,” FtvS president Emiliano Calemzuk said. “We’re testing the model with Mental on the scripted side. We think we can replicate it on the unscripted as well.”
