“Hello everyone and welcome to TEN News live from Perth,” said Narelda Jacobs.

And just in case you weren’t sure it was a new studio set, there was a slow dolly shot passed another camera with the words “AUTOCUE” clearly visible.

Yesterday TEN News Perth returned to its home city after eight years of bulletins from Sydney. But not everything went smoothly with the very first story having the wrong graphic.

Meanwhile sports was presented by Tim Gossage and Michael Schultz who presents weather, did so entirely from behind the main news desk -a curious approach given most others around the country use green screens and live crosses.

The edition ended as it began, with a solo shot of Jacobs, rather than a “team” wide shot. No doubt Perth viewers and TEN are glad to have the News back home. Jacobs looks like she will do a great job.

  1. The news reader that walked off set in protest was Geraldine Mellet, and that was at the time that the weekend news was going to be syndicated as a national bulletin rather than being local, it was some time later that the weekday bulletin left Perth, and at the time it was Greg Pearce & Christina Morrisy that both moved across to Sydney to present it. Over time they both moved back to Perth and the news readers then became Sydney locals.

  2. Michael Schultz has always done the news from behind the desk (sort of) when it was produced in Sydney.
Couple of teething problems, but I think it will go very well. Good to see TEN Perth have its own news back.
I remember when it left, and whoever it was that was doing the news at the time made a massive humph about and actually stormed off. At the time it was shocking, but freaking brilliant!
