Dirtgirlworld becomes international series

It’s not the kind of Dirt that usually engages Courtney Cox, but Aussie animated creation dirtgirlworld is being developed into an Australia / UK / Canadian production.

There will be 52 x 11 min episodes screening from September 2009.

The ABC has teamed up with its British and Canadian counterparts to commission a new Australian children’s cartoon series, dirtgirlworld.

Targeted at 4 to 7 year olds, the series is based on a gumboot-wearing character called Dirtgirl who plants tomatoes and drives a big orange tractor.

“I believe dirtgirlworld is a winning combination of innovative, stand-out design and a positive environmental message,” ABC executive head of children’s TV Tim Brooke-Hunt said.

“It will encourage young kids to have fun planting and playing in the garden or the park.

It’s the first production for Cate McQuillen and Hewey Eustace from mememe productions.

“This is very much a story from our hearts,” they said.

dirtgirlworld is entertainment with an environmental focus that invites children to be involved in a world where nature first is second nature.”
