Gone: 1 vs 100. Returning: Motorway Patrol.

Nine has dropped the return of 1 v 100 after just two weeks.

Nine had been playing episodes recorded in 2007 on Friday nights in its non-NRL states. But in its hometown of Melbourne the show only attracted 199,000 viewers -less than half Better Homes and Gardens (408,000).

Nine will replace the show with more NZ-made content, Motorway Patrol.

“It was only there to fill a hole,” Eddie Everywhere told news.com.au

“We didn’t do any publicity for it. It went as well as you could expect.”

McGuire also laughed off rumours that he was leaving Nine to take over from Daryl Somers as host of Dancing With the Stars on rival network Seven.

“It’s not what you would expect a Channel 9 person to be doing is it?” he said. “Unless it was coming to Channel 9 I can’t see that happening.

“I am not doing Big Brother either, so let’s get that out of the way.”

Reports last week championed the figures McGuire won for his opening shot of A Current Affair, all neglecting to note that all figures were up for the public holiday night. By the end of the week, ACA had exactly the same figures it always attracts. So in just eight days Nine has managed to erase all the sensible work it did in resting Eddie in 2008. He remains a formidable light entertainment host -but how can they bring him back refreshed after one flop and one stunt? Hopefully the short term gains were worthwhile. McGuire deserves better than this.

  1. Last year, you may remember that 1 vs. 100 was on at 20:30 Mondays, the same time Nine scheduled Millionaire. These shows never screened at 21:30.

  2. If Nine was serious about 1 vs. 100, then they would put it on at 20:30 Mondays when Sea Patrol ends. By doing this, Nine can be sure that it would rate well.
