America is about to experience the acting range of one Toni Collette.

While they’ve seen her work in Sixth Sense and Little Miss Sunshine, it’s likely to pale beside the skills required of her as a woman with multiple personalities in The United States of Tara. US cable network Showtime has now greenlit 12 episodes produced by Steven Spielberg.

Hotshot screenwriter Diablo Cody (“Juno”) penned the half-hour single-camera comedy. Spielberg will put his name to the series, the first time since Taken and SeaQuest DSV.

Showtime executive Bob Greenblatt said, “The pilot in its sensibility and tone reminds me of the pilot for Weeds, in the sense that it’s audacious and there’s that same combo of heavy stuff going on with the family, yet it’s real.”

I hope poor ‘Tara’ doesn’t have 52 states…
