New Aussie drama series for Showtime

John Edwards (Love My Way, Secret Life of Us, Dangerous) and Imogen Banks (Dangerous) will produce a new Australian drama series, “dealing with the tangled lives of parents, their teenagers, and the shifting moral compass of modern life.”

Tangle will be a 10 part drama, written by Fiona Seres (Love My Way, Dangerous, The Surgeon) and Tony McNamara (Love My Way, The Secret Life of Us). It will be directed by Jessica Hobbs (Love My Way, Curtin, Answered by Fire), Matthew Saville (The King, Noise, The Surgeon) and Stuart McDonald (The Secret Life of Us, Summer Heights High, SeaChange).

Tangle happens when you mix politics, religion and revenge, and still juggle being a parent to your teenage kids in a dodgy moral world,” said Showtime’s Kim Vecera.

The series will be made in Melbourne.

“Within 2007 and 2008 SHOWTIME Australia will have produced 38 hours of premium television drama” said CEO of SHOWTIME Australia, Peter Rose in making the announcement.

“With Love My Way 3, Satisfaction 1 and 2, and now TANGLE we are honouring our commitment to our viewers to bring them the best drama Australia has to offer,” he continued.

EP for Showtime, Kim Vecera said: “TANGLE happens when you mix politics, religion and revenge, and still juggle being a parent to your teenage kids in a dodgy moral world.”

Written by Fiona Seres (Love My Way, Dangerous, The Surgeon) and Tony McNamara (Love My Way, The Secret Life of Us) and to be directed by Jessica Hobbs (Love My Way, Curtin, Answered by Fire), Matthew Saville (The King, Noise, The Surgeon) and Stuart McDonald (The Secret Life of Us, Summer Heights High, SeaChange) TANGLE is being produced with the assistance of Film Victoria and investment by AUSTAR.

In making the announcement producer John Edwards said “It’s a thrill for me to be working with Imogen, directors like Jess, Matt and Stuart and writers like Fiona and Tony. It’s hard to imagine a more potent and fun mix.”

“AUSTAR is delighted to not only have the opportunity to share this new drama with viewers of the showcase channel, but also to be a major financial investor in the project” said AUSTAR Group Director, Corporate Development and Legal Affairs, Deanne Weir.

“The scripts are excellent, and with producing talent of the calibre of John Edwards, Imogen Banks and Kim Vecera we believe TANGLE will be another exciting chapter in the development of Australian television drama. This team brought new focus to the lives of Australians in critically acclaimed dramas such as Love My Way and Satisfaction and they’re now turning their attention to something we all care about – the modern family. I have no doubt that TANGLE will resonate as strongly with regional Australians as the other productions have,” she continued.

Brian Walsh, FOXTEL’s Executive Director of Television and Marketing, said: “We are confident, like Love My Way and Satisfaction, TANGLE will continue to raise the bar for Australian television drama.”

Film Victoria’s CEO Sandra Sdraulig added: “We are excited that yet another high quality production will be made in Victoria, and we are proud to be supporting an Australian drama series in the vein of Love My Way, Rush and Satisfaction”.
