Stars come out for Tony

Alec Baldwin, Kristin Chenoweth, Glenn Close, Harry Connick, Jr., Laurence Fishburne, Laura Linney, John Lithgow, Liza Minnelli (that’s one to watch), Mary-Louise Parker, Mandy Patinkin, David Hyde Pierce, Daniel Radcliffe, Brooke Shields, Marisa Tomei, Lily Tomlin, and John Waters are just some of the presenters at tomorrow’s 62nd Tony Awards.

Whoopi Goldberg is hosting Broadway’s biggest night which airs live in Australia as it happens in New York. Bio is screening the event direct at 10am on Monday, with a replay at 8:30pm tomorrow night.

This year’s show will open with a performance of ‘Circle of Life’ from “The Lion King” to celebrate its 10th anniversary, and along with musical numbers from the nominated shows there will be a performance by the soon-to-close “Rent.” That’s 13 separate production numbers.

“We’re going to have ‘Young Frankenstein’ and ‘The Little Mermaid.’ Even if you don’t know the shows, you know the movies,” said a producer. “‘In the Heights’ has certainly gotten a lot of press, plus with ‘Gypsy’ and ‘South Pacific,’ you’ve got a pair of famous revivals.”

Stephen Sondheim will receive (a long overdue) Lifetime Achievement Award.
