Viewers evict Big Brother

Not quite sure what figures one newspaper was reading when they said Big Brother’s figures went up with Mike Goldman hosting.

Confidential says that under Goldman, BB “perked up slightly, from 776,000 last week to 813,000.”

For the record, Sunday’s eviction was the lowest ever at 813,000. But it was probably little to do with the choice of host (Goldman is far easier to watch than cranky Kyle). Like all of Sunday night’s programmes, television was hit hard by the long weekend.

But the eviction the week before, also co-hosted by Goldman wasn’t 776,000, it was 1.012m. Maybe they should be baying for Sandilands to return?

“While producers ignored viewers’ calls to make the shift to Goldman permanent, perhaps the ratings improvement will be harder to avoid,” notes the column.

Sandilands is still ill, but a spokeswoman for Big Brother today said that Sandilands was expected to return on Sunday.

“He had the week off for his radio show as well so he’s got quite a bad chest infection,” the spokeswoman said.

“With anything like that you determine things day by day, obviously if he’s not well enough he won’t be there.

“But at this stage we expect him back, we should see him next Sunday.”

In Perth, where there was no public holiday, numbers went up by 17,000.

  1. We watched it but only because there was nothing else on. I have to say I much prefer Mike over Kyle. If Mike was staying on I’d be more likely to keep watching it, but really its crap. Its gotten worse than last year and the housemates to me do not seem any different from previous years even though they are supposed to be. They all just seem immature and naive and yawnworthy.

  2. can they SERIOUSLY just evict all the people at TEN that make the choices about what is good TV. BB was a good show when it first started, but really should have moved to PayTV and left timeslots open for decent TV.
