This week At the Movies tackles the X Files feature film* ‘I Want to Believe.’ Margaret and David also review Angelina Jolie’s new flick Wanted, The Square by the Edgerton boys, and The Bank Job.

Next week it’s new films for Ryan Philippe, Seth Rogen and a Russian thriller…made in Australia!

Episode 25 – 30 JULY
WANTED – stars Angelina Jolie and James McAvoy: Based upon Mark Millar’s explosive graphic novel series and helmed by the stunning visualist director Timur Bekmambetov, Wanted tells the story of one invisible drone’s transformation into a dark avenger. In 2008, the world will be introduced to a superhero for a new millennium: Wesley Gibson (McAvoy).

THE X FILES: I WANT TO BELIEVE: Director Chris Carter:
In grand “X-Files” manner, the film’s storyline is being kept under wraps. This much can be revealed: It is a stand-alone story in the tradition of some of the show’s most acclaimed and beloved episodes, and takes the complicated relationship between Fox Mulder (Duchovny) and Dana Scully (Anderson) in unexpected directions. Mulder continues his unshakable quest for the truth, and Scully, the passionate, ferociously intelligent physician, remains inextricably tied to Mulder’s pursuits.

THE SQUARE + INTERVIEW WITH DIRECTOR NASH EDGERTON AND ACTOR/WRITER JOEL EDGERTON — Escaping the monotony of a loveless marriage, Raymond Yale has become entangled in an affair with the beautiful and troubled Carla. Ray’s moral limits are tested when Carla presents him with the proceeds of her controlling husband’s latest crime. This is their chance: Take the money and run… If only it were that simple.

THE BANK JOB + INTERVIEW WITH JASON STATHAM — Martine offers Terry a lead on a foolproof bank hit on London’s Baker Street. She targets a roomful of safe deposit boxes worth millions in cash and jewellery. But Terry and his crew don’t realise the boxes also contain a treasure trove of dirty secrets, secrets that will thrust them into a deadly web of corruption and illicit scandal.

PINEAPPLE EXPRESS -The guys who brought you Superbad reunite for the action-comedy Pineapple Express. Lazy stoner Dale Denton (Seth Rogen) has only one reason to visit his equally lazy dealerSaul Silver (James Franco): to purchase weed, specifically, a rare new strain called Pineapple Express. But when Dale becomes the only witness to a murder by a crooked cop (Rosie Perez) and the city’s most dangerous drug lord (Gary Cole), he panics and dumps hisroach of Pineapple Express at the scene. Dale now has another reason to visit Saul: to findout if the weed is so rare that it can be traced back to him. And it is. As dale and Saul run for their lives, they quickly discover that they’re not suffering from weed-fueled paranoia;incredibly, the bad guys really are hot on their trail and trying to figure out the fastest way to kill them both. All aboard the Pineapple Express.

KATUSHA – Australian film – Director: Igor Grabovsky. During the Second World War the Wermacht had made several attempts to destroy a revolutionary new type of weaponry invented by Russian military engineers. Not many people know the technical name of this weaponry, but up til today it is know all around the world as the Rocket Launcher – KATUSHA. Wartime thriller, set in Russia and made in Australia…

STOP LOSS + INTERVIEW WITH DIRECTOR KIMBERLY PIERCE starring Ryan Phillipe and Abbie Cornish Back home in Texas after fighting in Iraq, a soldier refuses to return to battle despite the government mandate requiring him to do so.
