Aussie ads on track

Commercial television networks last year surpassed a requirement to broadcast Australian-produced advertisements for at least 80 per cent of their advertising time between 6am and midnight.

During 2007, Nine averaged 92.5 per cent Australian content, Seven averaged 86.3 per cent and TEN averaged 85.6 per cent.

The results compliance results were announced yesterday by the Australian Communications and Media Authority, based on reports provided to ACMA by the three commercial TV networks.

The Australian Content in Advertising Standard (TPS 23) requires that the bulk of television advertisements are Australian made. The remainder of the time may be occupied by foreign produced advertisements.

An advertisement is considered Australian produced if it is wholly pre-produced, filmed and post-produced in Australia or New Zealand or partly in Australia and partly in New Zealand; or if this is not the case – Australians have exercised direction over the creative and administrative aspects of pre-production, filming and post-production.

  1. Well, NZ is the unofficial 7th Aussie state !
Pity they can’t air just as much Aussie TV content, instead of cheap imported garbage reality shows.

  2. I never knew there was such a requirement… is this designed to promote Australian culture in advertisements… or is it purely to protect the Australian advertising industry?

  3. Oh thank god! I was so worried about that… joking… but I do find it rather funny that if they ad is made in New Zealand, then it is known as an Australian Ad… anyone else thinking Russell Crowe?
