BB #1 online

Big Brother’s official website is the most popular television website in the country according to Hitwise, easily outstripping its nearest competition.

www.bigbrother.com.au had a massive market share by visit of 34.26, in the week preceding its axing announcement, claims The Australian.

Its nearest competitor, soccer on the SBS site, had a tiny 7.33 while Neighbours and Home and Away had shares of just over 2 per cent.

TEN management has argued that it may have lost television share but that fans have migrated online.

Big Brother was more than TV. Fans who wanted access to Big Brother, anytime anywhere, could do so via their TV, mobile or on the internet,” it said in a statement. “It also provided a multifaceted platform for key sponsors who wanted a ‘surround-sound’ advertising experience.”

Given the show has been underperforming for TEN traffic must have skyrocketed in its more popular years. How well we remember stories of the site crashing.

Meanwhile The Australian also reports Nine is seriously considering the format as part of its multi-channelling plans for 2009.
