Paging Doctor Kate?

Kate Ritchie’s name is being tossed around in early casting aspirations of Nine’s revamped Young Doctors according to news.com.au

“Whispers emerging out of the production camp for upcoming drama Young Doctors indicate the former Home and Away star is the top choice to star in the contemporary take on the popular 1970s drama” it says.

It would certainly be a coup to nab the two-time Gold Logie winner, but a punishing brekkie radio schedule is likely to create headaches. In the last ratings survey her Nova show with Merrick and Rosso was second in its timeslot on the FM band.

So far no approach has yet been made to Ritchie’s agent, but a Nine spokesperson said, “The program is still in very early days of scripting and character development, but we think Kate is fantastic and would love to have her on the network at some stage.”

Earlier this week a separate spokesperson confirmed to TV Tonight that progress on the series was well advanced, with a 2009 airdate likely. Producers are said to be very excited at script development under Kris Mrksa and Jaime Browne (The King) though casting is said to still be some way off.

Nine had originally announced Young Doctors as forming part of its 2008 schedule, but this has since been pushed to 2009.
