Selma Blair v Aussie fans?

Updated: first pic of America’s foxy morons!

Selma Blair is said to be shocked by an “Australian-led blogger backlash” about the Americanisation of Kath and Kim.

“Some people are really protective and horrified that we’re doing it in the United States,” Blair told news.com.au

“It’s a case of, ‘How could you? Oh my god, you might ruin it’. But what’s to ruin? You’re still going to have your great show in Australia – we’re just paying homage to it. Nothing takes away from the original.”

Nowhere in the article does she name any of the blogs she might be referring to. I’ve said all along that with Jane & Gina at the helm, and the track record of Ben Silverman succeeding with The Office and Ugly Betty, that the show is in the best possible hands.

Still there are some fan comments, including on this site, who demonstrate cynicism. In fairness that’s probably a fairly Aussie trait, as her research on Aussie culture would indicate. And while the US more recently has had success in translating foreign shows, historically there have been are some real turkeys. They had three goes at Fawlty Towers.

Clearly NBC’s vote of confidence in extra eps and the comedy Thursday timeslot shows all is heading in the right direction.

Somehow I don’t think even that would be enough to impress the irritable Kim Craig.
