TEN presenter heads to ABC

Update: She is the new face of ABC television’s overseas news on the Australia Network and will also read the news on Jim Middleton’s News Hour.

Network TEN news presenter, Mignon Stewart, is heading to the ABC.

Stewart, who fills in on Melbourne and Adelaide bulletins will take on a hosting role left vacant by drug-accused foreign correspondent Peter Lloyd.

But the ABC’s Victorian news editor, Marco Bass, said Stewart would not be co-hosting the new four-hour TV breakfast news program on ABC2 with Virginia Trioli.

“I can absolutely say she is not coming to the new news program,” Mr Bass told news.com.au. “It is in a different area of the news division but, to be honest, I don’t even know what the job is.”

Stewart resigned on Friday after more than five years in TEN’s Melbourne newsroom.

Sources said she’d had enough of her time in newsreader Helen Kapalos’s shadow, and was looking for a permanent No 1 spot.
