150 years of Footy, 7 days of mucking up.

Former Footy Show sidekicks Eddie McGuire and Sam Newman last night addressed issues that have both gotten them into the newspapers in the last week.

Newman acknowledged criticism of his comments last week and the hospitalisation of Tasmanian politician Paula Wriedt.

“We wish her well, whatever her trials and tribulations are, and we hope that we can get her on here one day and actually speak to her about the subject that got a bit hijacked, for one reason or another,” he said. “And if she is listening, or any of her friends are listening, we pass on our best wishes to her.”

Newman, dressed in an outfit that celebrated 150 years of AFL, later interviewed Collingwood President and friend Eddie McGuire over a scandal involving 2 players who lied about a drink driving accident this week.

McGuire said that while football always drew young men from different socio-economic backgrounds there would always be a share of problems. He acknowledged disappointments with the two players and said of problems at Collingwood, “the buck stopped” with him.

After McGuire missed a key press conference this week, “Eddie Everywhere” was being dubbed “Eddie Nowhere” by media. Newman asked if, following ongoing Sydney press attacks, Melbourne was next to take aim. McGuire said newspapers that were losing some of their advertising revenue and sales and stories helped sell copies with such stories.

Earlier this week Today Tonight also launched an extraordinary attack on McGuire claiming the Collingwood dramas had left him with “egg on his face.” It also dubbed him a “control freak.”

Last night McGuire dismissed one of his comments that his role at Collingwood had cost him “four or five Gold Logies” as a joke, said during a motivational discussion with Collingwood players in the context of sacrifices.
