Barrie for Breakfast

Veteran journalist Barrie Cassidy will take on an ABC co-host role made vacant by the impending trial of Peter Lloyd in Singapore.

Cassidy will co-host the forthcoming Breakfast programme on ABC2 with Virginia Trioli from October. He will remain until the network appoints a new host.

Breakfast will present live and broadcast breaking news from the ABC’s extensive network of television, radio and online journalists, including footage of live radio interviews with politicians and breaking international news.

It will air from 6 – 10am daily in competition with Sunrise, Today, Sky News and radio.

“The program is a very important step in the development of the 24-hour news centre, and I am happy to step in and help,” Cassidy said.

The program is part of a major move by the broadcaster to maximise its vast news networks in television, radio and online.

Cassidy already works on two Sunday programs: Insiders and Offsiders.
