Idols sing idols

Idol contestants will choose a song by their favourite musical performer.

At the risk of sounding like a stutter, the first musical theme for the Final 12 sing-off in Australian Idol will be “Idol’s Idol.”

The contestants will choose a song by their favourite musical performer, Australian or international. Next week the show is also live to air as the semi finals get underway.

As previously noted, when the show reaches the first of its Verdict shows (Sept 15), this year the “bottom 3” will be announced at the top of the show and voting will continue (for East Coast viewers).

There is an argument that this will disadvantage non-East Coast singers / viewers, although TEN is likely to defend that there is no change to their ability to vote from last year. If a WA or SA singer gets booted early in the contest, watch the fallout that follows….

Press Release:
The first theme of Australian Idol 2008 is Idol’s Idol. Each of the 12 contestants will choose a song in honour of their musical Idol and perform in front of the Australian public.

Will they choose an Aussie singing sensation like Johnny Farnham (Ed: I don’t think he’s used that name for years, TEN), or Kylie Minogue? Perhaps an international diva like Celine Dion or Janis Joplin? This first choice of song is crucial and a bad choice or poor delivery, could place them in the bottom three contestants.

On Monday night, the bottom three contestants will be announced, as voted by the Australian public. Those three contestants will be required to perform once again and the voting lines will re-open, giving Australia a second chance to save their favourite Idol. One contestant with the least cumulative votes, from both Sunday and Monday night, will leave the show, bringing the remaining 11 contestants, one step closer to become Australian Idol 2008.
