ABC to air historic Governor-General moment live

ABC1 will screen live the swearing in of Australia's first female Governor-General, Ms Quentin Bryce AC.

On Friday morning the ABC will screen live the swearing in of Australia’s first female Governor-General, Ms Quentin Bryce AC.

ABC1 will show the ceremony live to air from 10.25am in the Eastern states and delayed in the West. It will also be streamed on abc.net.au

ABC Managing Director Mark Scott said, “In keeping with the ABC’s past practice of screening the swearing-in of a new Governor-General, we have decided to show tomorrow’s ceremony on ABC1, and expect there will be additional interest given the historic appointment of Australia’s first female Governor-General”.

The ABC will screen live on ABC1 tomorrow the historic swearing-in ceremony of Australia’s first female Governor-General.

Ms Quentin Bryce AC will be sworn in by the new Chief Justice of the High Court, Robert French.

The Managing Director of the ABC, Mr Mark Scott, said the appointment of Ms Bryce, the former Governor of Queensland, had generated enormous interest and debate around the country.

“In keeping with the ABC’s past practice of screening the swearing-in of a new Governor-General, we have decided to show tomorrow’s ceremony on ABC1, and expect there will be additional interest given the historic appointment of Australia’s first female Governor-General”.

The ceremony, in the Senate Chamber of Parliament House in Canberra, will be attended by Ministers, Members of Parliament, Members of the Judiciary, and the diplomatic corps. Following the official swearing-in, the new Governor-General will address the Chamber.
