At the Movies adjustment

There may not be a show next week because of the Paralympics, but fans of Margaret & David haven't been forgotten.

Next week’s At The Movies will not screen at its usual time on ABC1 due to the Paralympics Closing Ceremony.

Instead it will actually premiere in its normal ABC2 timeslot, at 8pm Saturday September 20. But it will also air on ABC1 as always on Sunday September 21st at 6pm.

Films to be reviewed include Caramel, Step Brothers, The Tender Hook, Wall•E, Australian flick Bitter and Twisted and the bizarrely titled Angus Thongs and Perfect Snogging.

Press Release:
At the Movies is not screening Wednesday due to Paralympics, and will premiere on ABC2 on Saturday 20 Sept at 8pm and then play on ABC1 on Sunday at 6pm.

CARAMEL – directed and written by and starring by Nadine Labaki and centres around a Beirut beauty salon where several generations of women come into contact, talk and confide in each other.

STEP BROTHERS – A comedy that re-teams Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly, for the first time since Talledega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby, as coddled guys who live with their respective single parents. Their folks fall in love and marry, making the guys stepbrothers. As their narcissism and downright aggressive laziness threaten to tear the family apart, these two middle-aged, immature, overgrown boys will orchestrate an insane, elaborate plan to bring their parents back together. To pull it off, they must form an unlikely bond that maybe, just maybe, will finally get them out of the house.

THE TENDER HOOK – Set in a stylised version of 1920’s, it tells the story of Iris, a beautiful young woman caught at the apex of a dangerous love triangle. Her English lover McHeath, a rogue boxing promoter, suspects her involvement with his new young protégé Art. In a flawed moral landscape each struggles to retain their personal sovereignty as McHeath is provoked to acts of jealousy and violence. Ultimately Iris’s desires lead them all to an unexpected and destructive final destiny.Stars Rose Byrne and Hugo Weaving

WALL:E – What if mankind had to leave earth and somebody forgot to turn the last robot off? Academy Award®-winning writer-director Andrew Stanton (“Finding Nemo”) and the inventive storytellers and technical geniuses at Pixar Animation Studios (“The Incredibles”, “Cars”, “Ratatouille”) transport moviegoers to a galaxy not so far away for a new computer-animated cosmic comedy about a determined . . . and heroic . . . robot named WALL•E. After hundreds of years doing what he was built for, WALL•E (short for Waste Allocation Load Lifter Earth-Class) discovers a new purpose in life (besides collecting knick-knacks) when he meets a sleek search robot named EVE. EVE comes to realize that WALL•E has inadvertently stumbled upon the key to the planet’s future, and races back to space to report her findings to the humans (who have been eagerly awaiting word that it is safe to return home). Meanwhile, WALL•E chases EVE across the galaxy and sets into motion one of the most exciting and imaginative comedy adventures ever brought to the big screen.

ANGUS THONGS AND PERFECT SNOGGING – directed by Gurunder Chadha This hilarious coming-of-age story is based on the international best-selling series of books by the British author Louise Rennison, and follows the eccentric and irresistible Georgia Nicolson as she overcomes the trauma of being a teenager.

BITTER AND TWISTED- This elegy to unrealized dreams contemplates the dark currents flowing beneath suburban placidity. The Lombard family has been steadily disintegrating since the death of oldest son Liam three years before. The descent is slow and soft, manifesting itself in a personal crisis for each family member. Obese father Jordan is caught in a vicious cycle of depressed overeating, and his boss at the car dealership is threatening to fire him if he doesn’t make a sale. Mother Penny harbours a hysterical false hope that she may be pregnant and suffers a rude awakening when she discovers that, on the contrary, she has started menopause. Son Ben is not sure if he is gay or straight, but he knows that he has very strong feelings for the girl across the cul-de-sac-his dead brother’s ex-girlfriend-who also happens to be having a tragic affair with a married man. Stars Noni Hazlehurst,Matt Newton, Leanna Walsman, Gary Sweet and Rhys Muldoon.
