Auditions: So You Think You Can Dance Australia

The cattle calls for the 2009 season begin later this month. But don't even think of bringing downloaded music to your audition.

Here we go again…

TEN has announced audition dates for its second season of So You Think You Can Dance Australia -the show that genuinely attracted both talent and praise this year.

Auditions begin in Adelaide on September 28th and end in Melbourne on November 2nd.

Applicants must be Australian, aged 18 to 35 as of 1st February 2009. TEN says it is “on the hunt for UNIQUE styles of dance that are hard to learn and take years to perfect…. tappers, poppers, breakers, acrobats, contortionists, ballet dancers, traditional dancers…”

TV Tonight understands that behind the scenes, judges are also hoping more industry dancers will audition for the programme. There was a feeling that last year many industry performers stayed away from the show, uncertain about the way the show would be received and how a reality television appearance might affect their career. Now the show has been well-received, there is a private hope that might shift this year.

Auditionees are also told, in fact COMPELLED, to arrive to auditions with 5 COPYRIGHT-APPROVED CDs to audition with. TEN won’t be allowing downloaded music to accompany auditions because of copyright issues in broadcasting (oh we can hear the tears now!). They also encourage selection of songs that haven’t been used before. Hey who can remember the last batch anyway?

  1. I am glad to see at least one Australian reality television program set the minimum age of contestants at 18. David, was this the case for first season as well?

  2. Any word on who the third judge will be this year? All I’ve seen on the cattle call commercials are Jason Coleman and Matt Lee… Do we expect Bonnie Lythgoe to return or will they adapt the American style of a revolving third judge?
