Bumped: Kitchen Nightmares USA, CSI: NY.

Is Gordon Ramsay the victim of over-exposure? Nine moves swiftly on a series with undercooked returns.

Months ago he was the hottest thing on television, now he can’t get the figures and is replaced by a movie.

Nine was so unhappy with its 732,000 for the (fasttracked) series of Kitchen Nightmares USA on Monday that it is moving the reality series immediately. Next week (Wed Sept 17) it screens at 10pm, replacing a repeat of CSI: NY.

A new episode of CSI: NY planned for 9:30pm Monday is now out schedule too. Instead Nine will fill its Monday with a repeat of a 2003 Jack Nicholson movie, Something’s Got To Give. You would almost be right in thinking Nine is giving up the fight with City Homicide.

A week later on Monday Sept 22 Nine airs the 2005 Kurt Russell movie Poseidon followed by Sensing Murder.

On Wednesday Sept 24 Kitchen Nightmares airs at 9:30pm.

In the premiere episode this week Nine had considerably more censoring of the swearing Chef than usual. While it may have been affected by the challenges of fasttracking, Nine is aware that ACMA is still assessing complaints over the series.

Many will argue that Nine over saturated its schedule playing Gordon Ramsay up to 3 times a week, though it is also interesting to note that Seven’s Ugly Betty has also seen a fall from grace this year.

  1. I would have to agree that Channel 9 has oversatured the audience with Gordon Ramsay.

I can’t stand it when the networks constantly advertise new shows. It just drives me insane. I even hate it when it’s a show I like. It’s just too much.

I still find it hard to believe trash like City Homicide rates well. It’s embarrasing to watch. I don’t mind movies on a Monday night at all. I miss movies. There aren’t enough on these days. But the problem is, they never seem to show unknown movies. Channel 10 are the worst with them same lot of movies every single time.

Since the Olympics finished, TV has been even more all over the place than before. There isn’t a point in having a TV program anymore because things are never on when they’re meant to be!

  2. Why are they in such a rush to change the schedule due to one night? There are a variety of factors affecting ratings (eg. the 90210 pilot which I doubt will rate well in future weeks due to its utter lameness).

PS: I thought we already had Nielson ratings. I remember applying for it once.

  3. Richo, I know how sometimes you feel let down by the pilots. The opening sequences of Firefly didn’t draw me in at all, and I only continued watching because I was prepared to give a Whedon show the benefit of the doubt, and I’m so glad I did.

But, you’re right, sometimes it’s clear from the pilot (or even the trailer) that the show isn’t going to work, ever. I just want to hope that Fringe is not one of them.

  4. i agree, gordon ramsey was only a recap show of the kitchens that he helped out last year and the final result that they have become this year, so next week supposely is when the real kitchen nightmares and fun is going to start so know wonder the viewers turned off this week, i reckon once the show gets started again and the swearing begins for the people who like it then the rating will go up

  5. I saw the pilot and thought it was one of the worst things I’ve ever seen. If Abrams wasn’t helming it I probably wouldn’t have such high expectations, but because this is the guy behind brilliant shows like LOST and Alias I expected a lot better. If it improves over time I’ll be quick to eat my words and hop on board the bandwagon, even if it is a major step down from his previous works. You’re right though, pilots aren’t everything. Buffy, 24 and Prison Break, three of my favourite shows, had pilots of questionable quality IMO, but they eventually rapidly accelerated in awesomeness and had me hooked. There are certain pilots that hook me the first moment a show goes to air though, like Heroes, LOST and Kyle XY, and I guess I was looking for that sensation and was severely let down by what I saw.

  6. The repulsive Soup Nazi is being bumped. Sweet.

Richo, aren’t you a little rush in condemning Fringe? How many episodes you’ve seen? And usually shows improve overtime, except it sounds like you’re actually hoping it won’t improve. Which is the opposite I’m hoping for.

Just to remind you, the pilot of the X-Files wasn’t exactly Emmy material, either.

  7. And not a statistically useful number of OzTAm people meters, either, nor spread across a statistically sound demographic. But then, OzTAm exists only to serve the commercial networks.

We need a Nielsen in this country, we really do.

  8. I would rather Ramsay get higher ratings than Fringe. Heck, I don’t even mind Criminal Minds getting higher ratings than Fringe. That show is terrible and I hope it gets aborted in its first season.

  9. thats typical of nine and i do say all the other channels if they dont get the viewers they either chop the program or bump it,would i would like to know is how many viewers did watch gordon ramsey, and all the other shows that they didnt register the rating,i once heard that there was a microchip or something in your tv that registers a rating to that program so the tv stations know how many people watch that show,i dont know if that is true but if u got an old fashion tv or a tv that hasnt got that chip in it then how would the channels know exactly how many people did watch those shows they mention, like they say only 732000 people watch gordon ramsey but who know there could of been a million of not every tv registered a rating.

  10. Movies? Are they that desperate to barely get over the line and win the ratings for the year that they will isolate more and more viewers. Clearly history will answer yes.

  11. Nine killed the goose that laid the golden egg flogging Ramsay so much earlier in the year, remove the swearing and hes just like Jamie, Nigella or any other TV chef and the novelty of an angry scotsman using explitives over and over on TV was always going to wear thn rather quickly…
If they keep flogging 2.5 men as much as they are at the moment, that will be the next to suffer the same fate

  12. I wonder if they even know that Monday night’s show was essentially repeats? I’m a fan but I was bored by the previously seen footage (I mean it was earlier this year so I can remember it quite well – I’m not senile yet) so I switched to Auntie for the night.

  13. That’s surprising. I mean it’s not the first time nine has been disloyal to it’s former hit shows ( ER, Survivor, McLouds Daughters). But it is the first time it happened in the actual year the show was a hit.

  14. Ah, more knee-jerk program changes that won’t make it to the Green Guide and thus cost the show a vast amount of viewers. Smart move, Nine programmers. Not.

Hopefully we can at least have the show uncensored now that it’s airing in an MA viewing slot when all the sensitive little complainers should be snuggled up in bed 🙂
