McLeod’s “bed & breakfast”

"Drover's Run" is to be turned into a Bed and Breakfast.

Kingsford property, better known as “Drover’s Run” to millions of viewers, is to be turned into a bed and breakfast.

The homestead location, originally constructed in 1856, was used for eight seasons of McLeod’s Daughters at Freeling in the heart of northern Adelaide’s premier grazing / rural area. The Nine Network purchased the 55ha property in 1999.

It has since been purchased by an Adelaide couple who plan to turn it into a Bed and Breakfast, after first renovating the old mansion. It’s sorely in need of some TLC.

Meanwhile if you are wondering what happened to the new episodes of the series, they subtly disappeared off screen during the Olympics. But Nine hasn’t any immediate plans to bring them back anytime soon.

The last episode to air managed 931,000.

Nine will return the series over summer.

TV Tonight reckons the owners should open the B&B to time with the final episode, and invite a few stars for the occasion. Just not sure when that might be…

  1. This may be the wrong place, but I`ve been looking and trying every where to find out if there`s any way I can get a copy of the last show ? I live in the U.S. I`m hooked on this show and wished it would`ve stayed around.Best show ever. Glad Drover`s will be a B&B. I have all the dvd`s and the 3 soundtracks. I `m guessing the last show would`ve had to been copied on vhs. I can make that into dvd.

  2. can someone please tell me when there is going to be any news on the bed and breakfast and if there is going to be a website we can all look at. also are they still running the tours out there since it has been sold to whomever brought it. thanks, oh and can someone please answer as im sure we are all eagerly awaiting to hear what is happening with “drovers run”

  3. has anyone heard anymore info on when the new owners will open the property to the public?? is there a website or anywhere to contact them cheers 🙂

  4. Does anybody know when it´s open or a name of the B&B (maybe a homepage) ? Cause I´m in Australia from November till March and I hope I stay there for a few nights 🙂 Thanks

  5. drovers run is still currently being renovated, not sure when it will be open, you can do the tour around the property but cant actually enter the house

  6. hi jst wondering if anyone knows anymore about the couple who have brought the property here it is 2011 now and i have only just found out that it wasnt the playboy master who brought it after all !! Thank the good lord for that !!! so is there a website or anything to be able to find out more info of when its open to the public ??? cheers 🙂

  7. I reckon it’s a fantastic idea to turn drovers into a B&B. I know myself and my daughter will certainly spend some time there. This is the best thing for mcleods fans. I hope the new owners will not make too many changes, though I know it is in need of renervations. Please make sure it is highly advertised on the web site when it is ready for business, hope it goes ahead.

p.s. I’m so glad hugh did not get drovers for him and all his bunny crew. This would have been so degrading for the whole meaning behind drovers and md’s. All us true and loyal fans would had been devestated. The very loud sigh’s of relief were heard all over the world when he didn’t buy it.

  8. The problem I have with catchup TV online is people are forced to pay for higher monthly limits for a show that should be on FTA, you’re lock into watching it on the PC and with a separate player you have to DL, the files are huge eating into limits. Then if you wait you have to pay $70 or more for the DVD.

If they had not held off on showing it for so long, or left it on during the games and last few weeks then maybe it would have had a chance to get the audiance back?

Yes there are now another million people pissed of with ch9, is there anyone who is not?

  9. Maybe because almost 2 million watched it, liked it, and told other people – word-of-mouth. I’m not just referring to this show, which i actually never watched, but there are heaps of shows which get **slightly** lower than anticipated ratings, then they get yanked off the air, sometimes never to be seen again. If these same 931,000 people never watched channel 9 again, channel 9 would be in trouble.

  10. If packed to the rafters was not advertised heavily during the olympics, and placed just after, there is no way it would have reached 2 million viewers. That is certainly an exception to the rule, so it is very unfair to compare it to that show.

  11. Benno, 931 000 viewers is absolutely dismal, especially when looking at the recent success of Packed To The Rafters, which just goes to show some 2 Million viewers (depending on the show) can be achieved, despite more people having pay TV, and in turn less people watching FTA. Therefore, if a show whatever it may be, can rate as highly as mentioned then obviously 931 000 viewers is dismal. This is also such as McLeod’s Daughters’ first season rated (correct me if I’m wrong) with some 1.8 Million viewers, so whilst it is eight seasons later has sadly and unfortunately fallen below the 1 Million mark.

As for what this actual article contains, I thoroughly agree with you Cameron, I am SO glad Heff didn’t end up buying ‘Drovers Run’ but rather a couple who will turn it into a B & B, so McLeod’s fans can in turn benefit! 🙂 – I think as you also mentioned Cameron the couple who bought it won’t regret it! Whilst also as you mentioned it is disappointing McLeod’s won’t return until over summer atleast Nine are taking the initiative to keep fans happy by making good use of the Catch – Up TV section on ninemsn.

Also, as RichoTB questioned, I wonder if you David know or can predict what we are / may be to expect in the coming Wednesday 9.30 timeslot on Nine.

  12. At least Hugh Hefner did not buy it. With the B&B the fans can spend a night in the house. It will certainly make the couple very rich.

As for the final series, it is disapointing that the show will not return until summer but Ninemsn have put up episodes each week and are exclusive to catch-up tv. The episodes are up each Wednesday night so we still get to see a new episode each week. The recent ones have been great but I shouldn’t give any spoilers although the details are on the main McLeod’s website. The dvd is out in November. By the time the series returns, most people would have seen the episodes on Catch-up or from the dvd. The show may not have been treated well this year but at least they are using the catch-up website for downloading new episodes.
