Summer on SBS

Carla Cametti PD, Top Gear Australia, Bogan Pride and Swift and Shift Couriers will lead the line up for SBS this summer.

This week SBS announced highlights of its 2008 / 2009 summer programming, said to be the network’s biggest-ever line-up of new Australian shows. Some shows will launch before summer, but continue into non-ratings.

Its local productions are led by Top Gear Australia and Bogan Pride plus the arrival of the new drama Carla Cametti PD and Paul Fenech’s comedy Swift and Shift Couriers.

In addition, SBS has First Australians, produced by Aboriginal filmmakers, plus A-League Soccer and Tour Down Under. There’s new episodes of Newstopia, RocKwiz, Food Safari, Who Do You Think You Are? (UK version) and Mythbusters.

SBS Director of Commercial Affairs, Richard Finlayson, said: “SBS continues to make good on our promise: consistent schedule and ratings performance, steady audience growth, particularly in key advertiser demographics, while the shortest commercial breaks on television deliver big for brands.

“As always, every dollar of SBS commercial revenue is re-invested in great Australian content, which further benefits viewers and advertisers.”

SBS traditionally doesn’t adhere to the theory that summer equals off-peak programming.

  1. Wouldn’t they be filming East West 101 after wrapping up with The Strip, since it’s all done with the same production company? I’ve read on the Knapman Whyld website, some short descriptions of what they’re gonna do storywise, and I’ve gotta say, I’m excited. It’s a 7 episode series this time round.
