Sydney’s own Ramsay Street?

Move over Pin Oak Court. The surburban Sydney street of Packed to the Rafters is becoming a destination for fans of the drama.

“Our little street is becoming very popular,” said Concord resident Frances Pirrello.

“Obviously people drive by to see what is going on but we don’t mind that. It doesn’t worry us. They just drive along, look at the house and drive off again.”

Pirrello lives in Riverview Street, the home of Seven’s fictional Rafters family.

If the series can match the success of Neighbours, he might feel a tad more inundated. Pin Oak Court in Melbourne’s Vermont has for many years required a private security firm to block off the street in the evenings, just so the residents can get some peace and quiet.

By daytime it’s the destination of many visitors, mostly British tourists, and even a daily mini-bus tour.

For Packed to the Rafters, external shots are filmed in Concord, internally they are done at Seven’s Epping studios.

Seven has rented the Rafter family home on Riverview St for three years.

  1. I was part of Dot Broadhead and her family’s life some years ago, but have lost contact with her and the family whom I have been trying to find for some time.

If anybody knows Dot or family Please pass on this message.

    Here’s hoping

    Thanks

  2. The house was owned for over 35 years by the Charlton family with the Mansion next door being Dot Broadhead’s until 2003 when it was demolished to make way for the new one.
Riverview Street people were pioneers of the Christmas Street party, having it officially sanctioned with the Council, blocking off the street. In the enbd, they had to pay for this service

  3. Hi Jillian, the reason the show moved to Concord was because the property they were intending to use in Oatley was currently resided in by a family, and this was going to make it very difficult for the film crew to use this house efficiently within the agreed times. On the other hand the house in Riverview Street, Concord, is vacant and is being rented by Channel 7. This means that the film crew and the production staff, and all their associated equipment and props, can turn up at the house any time or any day to lay out and prepare for filming without continually having to get consent from the owners. They are also able to use more of the Concord house for filming as they have set it up with all of their own furniture and have the house laid out exactly as you see it in the show. I was told this by a few of the friendly film crew when my daughter and I visited the street during filming of some episodes last year.

  4. Only the initial production shots were done in Oatley before Channel 7 settled on the current location in Riverview Street, Concord. According to residents in the street filming is set to continue again between February 2009 and September 2009. Channel 7 normally films mid-week on every second week of the month. I visited the street a few times this year and was lucky enough to see some of the stars of the show!

  5. Just had a look at the house with Street View, which shows the house before it was obviously renovated to represent what we see on our screens. No doubt this street will become Sydney’s Ramsay Street.
