Taken Out taken out of 7pm slot

After just two weeks, TEN blinks and moves Taken Out to 6pm, replaced by Friends at 7:00.

Channel TEN has moved on its under-performing new dating show, Taken Out.

It will move from 7pm to 6pm immediately, with Friends moving back to the 7:00 slot.

Taken Out has been on air for two weeks now, with disappointing figures. It premiered to 851,000 but dropped to 581,000 on Friday.

The show hosted by James Kerley pits 30 contestants for a date with one single, so far only girls have comprised the group. 30 guys will get their turn for a date with a single female next week.

Of most concern for TEN is that the show has lost viewers who have been watching Neighbours, which had a knock-on effect for other shows, including the debut of Bondi Rescue: Bali. Reviews for the show have been almost universally negative.

Moving the show to 6pm will take the heat off the show somewhat where it will hope to find a renewed following.

Meanwhile, TEN also has 130 episodes of Out of the Blue up its sleeve…

  1. **NEWS FLASH**

10 should create a reality show that involves their viewers coming up with an idea for a new show. There are a lot of criticisms about their programming. They should listen to the ppl that help derive their income.

GIVE PPL WHAT THEY WANT INSTEAD OF TELLING THEM WHAT THEY WANT!

  2. Think I’ve figured this one out.

Show sucks, but its been made, so they’ll show it, and when the episodes made run out, it will be TAKEN OFF.

Taking Simpsons off the air? SHAME!

Putting Friends on? Pathetic. That show has had its day, lets get something new on t.v!

God forbid channel 10 actually spend some $$$$ and buy a new show.

  3. Finally got the Simpsons back at 6pm just a month or so ago, only for this piece of rubbish to take its spot, and for Friends to return. How pathetic.

Justin: I too saw that promo for Taken Out at approximately 6.59pm. I was hoping for Simpsons at 7.

  4. I wasn’t saying JUST because its Aussie we should support it, I was just saying that we shouldn’t bag the crap out of it just because its not Underbelly really. Its trashy, and its not pretending to be the next big great Australian hope so if you don’t like it don’t watch it, what’s the point in whinging?

  5. I saw this show being filmed at Eureka Tower in Melbourne on Saturday night, they were filming a male contestant at a couch on the SkyDeck waiting the chick to arrive. I guess time will tell if it makes it to air.

  6. RichoTB, Re: Bringing Biggest Loser forward.

IMO Ten are being smart by only showing the series once a year, rather than twice or even 3 times a year.

I don’t want them to overkill the show to the point where no-one cares and it ends up only getting sub-average ratings like Big Brother did, and subsequenty gets axed.

  7. Opps Ten for leaving in a promo that Taken out was coming up next during the Neighbours credits!

Didn’t seem to have any annoucement that the show had moved to 6pm before Friends started…some viewers will probarly think its been axed rather than moved…

  8. I couldn’t give a crap whether Taken Out was Aussie or not. Truth is, its a woeful show. If I were to support an Aussie series I’d give a REAL one a shot like an Aussie scripted drama. Try comparing Underbelly to Taken Out, there’s no comparison there. Programming like Taken Out just doesn’t interest me. Same thing with the millions of factual series. Just because Border Security and the 10,000 lifeguards shows are Australian, doesn’t mean they interest me in any way, shape or form.

Another idea, Ten may want to consider airing the new Biggest Loser: Couples season a couple of months early, judging from the ratings. Thats their most successful 7pm show, and they could easily film some more eps over the summer for next year.

  9. …sigh looks like it’s back to boycotting channel 10.

Last time they took The Simpsons from its 6:00pm slot I skipped everything I normally watch on TEN.

I normally also leave TEN on in the background after The Simpsons ends.

Now this? It’s the greatest injustice in the history of the universe… well it’s an injustice.

    Back to boycott.

  10. Well, at least “Friends” at 7pm is good. When they aired it at 6pm it was so heavily (and badly) edited that it was almost unwatchable. As for “Taken Out”, I can’t believe it’s still going at all. Channel 10 were nuts even developing that pile of garbage, much less airing it. Even the ads make me wince.

  11. I’m with Nathan. I’m happy to support Australian shows; but not just cos they’re Australian. To me there is nothing good about Taken Out; so why should I watch it? I’m 20 and think it’s a completely misguided show with poor planning, poor execution and an idiot of a host (though I applaud them for not recycling an old host much like Shelley Craft on 7 and 9. i simply can’t watch her anymore) and has nowhere to go but down and out. And with the move in timeslot; Ten obviously have fears for it too.

  12. Ahh good thanks David. Yeh thats right they only played part one of the one in Barbados. glad season tens starting, wonder what they’ll do when it ends hopefully put on Everybody Loves Raymond, thats a funny show

  13. I think it’s kinda smart. The only demo it was rating on was on teenagers. As a teenager, would you watch the 6pm News? If it can do the same numbers as its 7pm slot, then that may also help Neighbours ratings, which may also knock onto Friends.

RichoTB – Simpsons is a timeless classic. I urge you to revisit it, even the Tue 7:30-8:30 eps…if you were once a fan, you will find a new level of enjoyment ! I think thats why Simpsons continues to have legions of fans…as you get older, the jokes take on different meanings and you find it funny for different reasons.

  14. Dakota, we have many great Australian Television shows aired on TV, and many people like the Simpsons and Friends and happy to see them aired.

I’m all for supporting Australian TV, but only if its good. And seeing as Ten looks like it might by axing Taken Out, i’d say the show aint too good…

Why support a show just because its Australian?

  15. To be honest, Taken Out isn’t perfect, but honestly – on this site alone, every single programming decision made by Channel 10 (even putting Friends on in general) was lambasted. I’m really glad that there’s something brand new and Aussie. Sure its not that great quality, but they’re working on it. I’ve noticed subtle changes in the way the show is run (i.e the music during the button pressing has been significantly shortened) and in last week’s episodes there were some truly cute and even laugh out loud moments.

Basically what i’m saying is that the show was on the chopping block by you guys from the moment it was announced and its a shame we don’t celebrate the attempt as its not setting out to be intellectual entertainment :P. But then again maybe its just that not alot of people like it I guess which is fair enough. I’m 23 and I think its a pretty good show – better than watching Friends for the millionth time. As for the Simpsons – try buying/renting a dvd or getting Foxtel. Its refreshing to not have the SImpsons on for 5 nights a week again 😛

  16. most of the later eps of the simpsons are PG rated, so either a) cant be shown at 6pm or b) have to be edited to suit that G classifcation requirement for shows at 6pm.

  17. The Simpsons is still on like 5 times a week on TEN, on Saturday from 6pm to 7pm, Sunday at 6pm and also the Tuesday 7:30-8:30pm slot. Its already been milked way past its expiration date around 13 years ago, I used to love that show 8 years ago but then Ten overplayed it to the point of insanity. I’m glad they’re trying something fresh, even if its something as mediocre as Taken Out. I’m sure The Simpsons repeats will be back in a couple of weeks anyway so it’ll be on 10 times a week instead of 5.

  18. I think that when The Simpsons was on at 18, Ten kept showing repeats of repeats from the earlier Seasons, but quite frankly, I think that they shouldn’t have shown it at, because they skipped a lot of episodes and censor even scenes that were not likely to scare children.

Not so far this year or last year did they air all of the episodes from season one, such as “Some Enchanted Evening” and “Simpsons Roasting on an Open Fire” from season one. God knows how many episodes that Ten skipped that were shown in later seasons.

As for the censorship, I will use an example of what I am talking about. When Ten shown a Simpsons episode called “Rosebud”, they decided to chop out a scene which involve Homer convincing Maggie to keep a box instead of her teddy bear, and Homer was doing crazy things with said box. I believe that Ten deleted that scene just to extend an ad break.

When it comes to Taken Out, I agree that Ten are missing the things that made Perfect Match is a success.

  19. The Simpsons has been repeated about a billion times but I’m not complaining! I own the DVD’s but I still watch them on TV because they’re so damn enjoyable.

I don’t think Taken Out will last too much longer now so The Simpsons is sure to be back shortly.
