TEN draws police line around Underbelly actors

TEN thwarts Nine's hopes to use two Rush actors in its upcoming Underbelly promotion.

Actors Rodger Corser and Callan Mulvey, who both appear in Underbelly, have been prevented by Network TEN from participating in any promotion for the show, due to their current contracts on Rush.

Corser plays policeman Steve Owen while Mulvey plays criminal Mark Moran (pictured) on Nine’s gangland drama, which was given a greenlight by the Victorian Supreme Court yesterday.

The Daily Telegraph reports a Nine spokeswoman said the network was talking with Corser’s agent about getting access to the star, but TEN yesterday said both actors were off-limits.

In reality, there are enough actors in Underbelly to cover the short-fall, despite the fact that Corser’s character spans the series. Fortunately the series is an ensemble drama with plenty of stars to cover Victorian media.

Nine must have known there would be issues in promoting the show (Damian Walshe-Howling is now with Seven on Crash Investigation Unit too).

It is an unfortunate situation for the two actors, who are no doubt proud of their association with the hit series. But TEN is right in this case. Nine is even slating the series at 8:30pm on Tuesdays, directly before Rush screens at 9:30pm. Why on earth should it be expected to give Nine a free kick? Somehow, I reckon Underbelly will publicise itself just fine…

Meanwhile, the face of the actor said to be based on an accused criminal, who appears only briefly in the first five episodes, will be blurred.

  1. TV politics are fun!

LOL and blurring the face, it will be like watching the news, but that ratings will be very interesting.

OT – David up until yesterday the name/email/website fields would auto fill, but not now, has there been a change on the site?
