TV Tonight is on the air

Welcome to the new look TV Tonight! To help you get to know the new site, here's a little overview of what's inside.

Welcome to the new look TV Tonight website.

There are a number of new features in v2.0 (beta) of this blog. The biggest change you will notice is a shift from Blogger to Word Press, and a new navigation, designed to facilitate a better experience for you.

When this blog began nineteen months ago there were few Australian sites devoted entirely to television, calling networks to account and access to future programming. Now this site is read by television executives, media and fans alike.

The new-look site now has more of a “newspaper” feel that allows Top Stories to remain on the front page while they are newsworthy, rather than merely becoming superseded by the most recent new post.

The majority of posts are divided into three principal areas, represented by new front page verticals: News and Programming for Free to Air plus and Pay TV (news & programming combined).

You can easily click on a headline or image to take you direct to a story. Alternatively you can click on the category itself to take you to the most recent stories in each section.

There are separate sections for Reviews, Coming Soon, Advance Guides and the TV Lounge, which continues to serve as an open forum for questions or comment.

In the right hand side column you will see a guide for the evening’s viewing plus the latest ratings (now you don’t have to click on a link to see if it’s been updated).

There are links for social networking posts to MySpace, Facebook and more. Full RSS is now available across the site.

In order to comment on the site, readers must register one-time only via a valid email. This is NOT published. There is no change to Comments Policy and comments remain moderated for approval.

Tags will be added across the coming weeks and months to select posts, based on show title. Your patience is appreciated, as there are some 4,000 posts in the archive. In the meantime, please be sure to utilise the Search function.

The site will remain in Beta mode during this phase.

Special thanks in getting the new site together goes to David McDonald who has been fantastic in customising WordPress to my needs. Once I asked him to show ratings on the front page and to create verticals for News, Programming and Pay TV I think his eyes lit up at the challenge! If you’re looking for work on WordPress or a new website, he’s the man!

TV Tonight will continue to provide you with news, interviews, programming and features you have come to know and expect.

Above all it remains passionate about one thing: television.

Welcome!

David Knox.

  1. Oops…. found it – it’s called Top Pick now. It will take some getting used to having things in different places but the layout overall is better.

  2. Love the look. I think the site definitely has a more “Gawker/iO9/Gizmodo” feel to it all. Will look forward to seeing how it evolves in the coming months.

And the template looks a lot nicer than that stock-standard Blogger one.

  3. Hey David, any chance of What’s Hot coming back?

I liked that little section in the corner and it did make me think if there was something worth watching that night.

  4. Wow,David! Good job for TVT’s New look! I really love it!

And it is a Good Idea that you have transfered all of your Articles on WordPress 🙂

    Again,Congatulations,A job well done Dude!

  5. You’re not alone, itsross, I was getting a 404 until a couple of mins ago as well. It looks a bit like the Aussie version of TVGuide.com at the moment. It’ll take some getting used to, this new format, but I’m sure its good for the long run.

As for the actual new layout, its pretty good but I’ve always enjoyed the classic style of the blogger look from Google.

  6. Wow love the new site. But am I the only one who was getting 404 errors trying get tvtonight.com.au up? It only just came live about 5 minutes ago for me after being dead since Monday afternoon. glad its back now! some sort of dns caching problem?
