US pilots track fantasy and fairytales

A modern day Snow White, and a scifi where everybody in the world blacks out for 2 minutes? Two new projects flagged in the US.

Two potential pilots in the US sound rather exciting.

FOX is developing a contemporary take on Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, tentatively titled Georgia and the Seven Associates. The dramedy is tonally described as The Devil Wears Prada meets Taxi set in Los Angeles’ legal circles.

It centres on Georgia Burnett, a young lawyer who is banished from a top law firm run by her stepmother and forced to team up with seven quirky lawyers at a storefront legal office. The associates at the firm will have the personalities of the Seven Dwarfs. For instance, Doc is an ambulance chaser who carries neck braces in his trunk, and Sleepy is a bike messenger who parties at night and naps in the office.

Some of the legal cases will also be modernised fairy tales, like one about three people whose homes were taken away by Wolf Corp. Given the success of Ugly Betty, a modern day Cinderella, this could find success if it is well executed.

Meanwhile filmmaker David S. Goyer and Star Trek veteran Brannon Braga are close to landing a pilot and series order for Flash Forward.

Based on Robert J. Sawyer’s sci-fi novel, Flash Forward chronicles the chaos that ensues after everyone in the world blacks out for 2 minutes, 17 seconds and has a mysterious vision of the future that changes lives forever.

Very cool….

  1. There’s a few of this fantasy-style drama’s coming forward from the US lately

NBC is launching Crusoe (based on a famous fantasy novel) this Fall, whilst they 2 other new series, Kings (21st century David V Goliath) and Merlin launch in the US Winter (so next Jan/Feb)
Georgia and the Seven Associates sounds like an intresting idea (if FOX does it right)…prob get a new name though

  2. Both sound very interesting and orignal. I had already heard about the Snow White show yesterday but not about Flash Forward.

I’m really not a fan of most remakes but new ideas incorporated into an classic story I’m all for.

There’s a movie called Freeway which is like a twisted version of Little Red Riding Hood. It was so unusual and offbeat. I like things like this and I hope the writers can come up with many different way to make Snow White good. If it’s not successful at first though, FOX won’t give it a second chance.

  3. These sound fantastic. Both on FOX? They probably won’t air until September 2009 in the US, and thats presuming they even get picked up. The premise sounds great though, for both series, I’ll watch both
