When Rove met Kevin Rudd, P.M.

The PM was a good sport in fronting up for his birthday. But he still wouldn't tell Rove who he would turn for.

K. Rudd made his second appearance on Rove tonight, but his first as Prime Minister. He last appeared just before the Federal Election in a move that upstage John Howard’s continued refusal to appear on the show.

Being the PM’s birthday, Rove handed him a cap, t shirt and DVD of Kevin Rudd PM, the parody that Rove has seen the PM double as a spy.

Other things we learned tonight were that the PM uses Skype, and has tea towels from Crikey.com.

Rove also asked him whether he would prefer to work with Obama or McCain. Rudd was strategic, declining to pick a preferred future President. Last time he picked Hilary Clinton over Barack Obama, which bit him in the bum after Clinton was derailed.

But in answering a political question on Turnball’s takeover of Brendan Nelson he did say a candidate should step up, declare they can do a better job and run a challenge. Hmm. Hope that doesn’t bite you in the bum later, PM.

But when it came to the weekly “Who would you turn gay for?” the PM again bailed.

Rove told him he wanted a real answer this time (last time he nominated his wife), but the PM said his position hadn’t changed. Booo.

It was left to second guest Richard E. Grant to tell Rove who he would turn gay for: Kevin Rudd.

You can see Rudd on Rove here and here.

  1. Roves attempt at Political Satire is his attempt at keeping current with this countries comedic climate, the Chasers made Political Humor funny again Rove doesn’t wanna look like a recycled Daryl Somers now does he!!! 🙂 Oopss!! to late!

  2. maybe he could cameo on Neighbours wouldn’t that be so nice of him? Bloody hell

Lol that would be hilarious if he happened to pop down to one of their houses for a cup of sugar or something

  3. Why should he be applauded for going on Rove? So what if he can have a laugh? I can have a laugh, can I be Prime Minister? Fact is he has a job, a difficult job which he campaigned for and got.

Are you seriously going to keep him in for a second term because he’s going on Rove? Anyone who looked hard enough will see it’s been a bit hit and miss as far as his JOB goes, yeah that thing. The Australian media like to make it out like a glamorous job and public image is a big thing but please don’t condemn Howard for not going on shows like this, it isn’t his duty but it is unfortunately and most worringly the main priority it seems for the Australian public, for our PM to look nice and have some good interviews on Rove, maybe he could cameo on Neighbours wouldn’t that be so nice of him? Bloody hell

  4. I have never seen someone try so hard to be popular. From the way he walked onto the set with his hand in his pocket to his attempts to tell jokes, Rudd was a grade-A fool. I can’t believe Australians voted this man into power.

  5. yeah, lets build our popularity head off to other countries and never fix any problem with anything, oh no sorry we’ll just have a little forum so the people can tell me what i should do. Rudd is a clown parading as a prime minister. Oh and i hated howard and still hate his lot too.

    All polies have you fooled.

  6. Ellis, good to see you have nothing better to do than write on blogs at 1am in the morning. The role of PM is more than just putting policies into action. It’s also about being in touch with the people you represent, and in times of economic hardship, why shouldn’t he try and boost morale of the average Australian who is struggling.

K-Rudd should be applauded for taking the time out to do ROVE, not condemned.

  7. let me guess ellis youre the type of person who will claim theyre out of touch too..

i reckon its fantastic that labor are aiming at the younger generation because we vote too.. although I do listen to abc radio.. im sure not all people in their 20s do!

  8. Oh, and I’m not implying specifically Bush (I don’t think many people think he has any dignity left), but any president once they get the job…. They may all run to be on Leno and Letterman, or nowadays, Stewart or Colbert, while running for the job. But once they get the job, they’d never be on it…..

  9. Wow… Good to see our PM has nothing better to do than appear on Rove. You would never see this happen in America, where, you know, the president has a bit of dignity and a country to run….

  10. Yeah Kevin Rudd has been great on both of his appearances. And I like how Rove is very clearly supportive of him too.

@RichoTB: All of the segments appear on Rove Daily anyway so YouTube is pretty much unnecessary.

  11. It’s great to see that our PM has a sense of homour and is willing to appear on shows like Rove. Vast improvement on all the no shows from Howard, and I can’t see Turnball wanted to show up on Rove any time soon. Sen H. Clinton appeared on The Daily Show earlier this year too.

Lol that’s great. I didn’t watch this, it’ll probably surface on youtube in the next few days. As for the Liberal Gov, I reckon Peter Costello should’ve taken over, although K-Rudd is doing a commendable job – much better than Howard anyway.
