Bath in talks with Nine

Could Chris Bath jump ship from Seven to Nine?

A week ago it was Karl Stefanovic in discussions wth Seven, now it’s Chris Bath with Nine….

The Sunday Telegraph
reports that Bath has had two meetings with Nine executives, following talk she is unhappy with Ian Ross’ continued tenure in the newsreader chair at Seven and a lack of clarity from bosses as to her future.

But the same article quotes a Nine source as saying “There is no play in place for Chris Bath,” they said. “We think highly of her, but there is no room at the inn.” It also states Bath is understood to have made it clear she wants to stay with Seven.

Seve’s news and current affairs boss Peter Meakin said the network is already in preliminary negotiations with her contract.

“Anyone in their right mind would make Chris an offer,” he said. “She’s a delightful person and a great talent.

“She’s also incredibly sane, which would preclude her from going to Nine.”

Bath declined to comment.

  1. Chris is an exceptional talent and she shouldn’t be criticised for seeking clarity regarding her role at 7. She has been waiting years for the top job…and thoroughly deserves it. She’s come a very long way from reading the news at NBN. I’d love to see her replace Melissa Doyle on Sunrise.. a show Chris was actually the first anchor on way back when it began.

  2. If Seven let her go they are incredibly stupid. Best newsreader in the country in my opinion, but I still think she’s wasted just reading the news. You can tell she has a brain and opinion and can do so much more then just read words off an autocue, unlike some of the blonde bimbos you see that are only up there for their looks and would be lost without a script.

  3. “She’s also incredibly sane, which would preclude her from going to Nine.”

Hahahahaha. Seven are hilarious. They should do another one of those wacky press releases for their ratings reports. “Hole in the wall falls through a hole in the floor and Bondi Rescue is beyond rescue”.

  4. Is this another case of ONE network stirring the pot for a rival ?

Next week, seven will fight back with some negative comment or find flaw with Nine product.

Just who leaks these stories or some journos/newspapers just plain making this stuff up.

  5. Stick with Seven, Bath. Nine News is nothing compared to Seven News, ratings show that. You’re better off where you are now 🙂 Ross hardly ever anchors, only like a few days a week, or I just miss him when he is on…

  6. Chris knows that 6:00 PM weeknights already has her name written on the chair, Ian Ross is just keeping it warm for a bit longer… and boosting his retirement fund along the way.

Hopefully this gives Chris a boost in her salary, she deserves it. She is staple to Seven, they helped her become a national figure, and now she is in the box seat to play a central role in their future.

Ian Ross has only ever been a ‘stop-gap’ solution, Nine looked past him, he was pissed off, Leckie just happened to be at Seven, Ross slots in, news goes up.

  7. Also… I forgot to mention, yes she will have to wait another two years until Ian Ross’ contract expires to get the top job, that is of course providing Seven don’t want to once again resign him in the fear Seven News’ ratings will drop and offer him a contract no – one could refuse! Shame Seven are too afraid to give her and others more of a chance! Once again fair enough to Chris for being “unhappy with Ian Ross’ continued tenure in the newsreader chair at Seven”, anyone who’s been waiting for over 11 years for the top job would be unhappy! You’ve got my 100% support Chris! – IT’S TIME IAN!

  8. Mike I don’t agree with you at all as far as your comment in regards to Chris “trying to get more money out of seven”, but rather as this article and the article in the Sunday Telegraph states, she would like to know where she is headed in the future and thus where she currently stands. Which, as far as I’m concerned is fair enough! Why do people always think just because someone may be unhappy or uncertain of their position they want more money?!

  9. Money Money Money, MONAY! Yes it seems everyone at seven is trying this talk to nine trick now, seeing as Samantha Armytage got her 60% rise I guess Chris thinks she’ll give it a go. Makes me laugh how cut-throat the news department is towards each other, every one of them wants the top job!

I suppose if you look at it though they do work tough hours and long shifts. It’s just I’d like them not to take themselves so seriously though, they all seem to act like celebrities when all they really do is just read the news or sit on a couch and waffle on, nybody can do that! Give me a go I’ll show any Tom, Richard or Harry can do it! Oh that’s right protect your patch don’t let no-one else have a go!

  10. I agree with Mike, Sam Armytage was rumoured to be chatting with nine a few months ago, a few weeks later, shes re-signed with 7 with an apparent 60% payrise..still id be interested to know if Nine would offer Bath Mark Fergusons job..Roscoe v’s Chris Bath at 6pm in Sydney could be interesting!

  11. Chris is probably unhappy Ian Ross is staying on,well she will have too wait a little longer too take over 6.00pm weeknight news in sydney, shes another trying to get more money out of seven with KARL trick another network wants me so pay me more and l will stay lol.
