Cast all at Sea once more

Blair McDonough, Jessica Napier, Tasma Walton and Robert Coleby, from ABC's Patrol Boat, join the ranks of Sea Patrol's regulars.

Set to guest star in the Sea Patrol: Red Gold are Jessica Napier (McLeod’s Daughters, Stingers), Blair McDonough (Big Brother, Neighbours) and Tasma Walton (Blue Heelers).

But the real ‘coup’ for the third series is actor Robert Coleby, who appeared in the ABC’s Patrol Boat (1979 – 1983). Coleby’s inclusion is a terrific touch from the casting department.

He played Lieutenant Charles Fisher alongside Andrew McFarlane in the series produced by James Davern (A Country Practice). Like Sea Patrol, that series was also produced with the co-operation of the Royal Australian Navy.

Principal cast returning once more include Lisa McCune, Ian Stenlake, David Lyons, Steve Bisley, Jeremy Lindsay Taylor), Matt Holmes, John Batchelor, Jay Ryan, Kristian Schmid  and Kirsty Lee Allan.

New crew member Nikolai Nikolaeff also joins. The drama films at Mission Beach and the Gold Coast until February.

The Nine Network today announced that the popular drama mini-series, Sea Patrol, has commenced production of its third season in Far North Queensland.

Sea Patrol 3 – Red Gold follows the crew of HMAS Hammersley as they patrol the coastline of Australia, protecting the nation’s borders.

Lisa McCune again heads up the cast, along with Ian Stenlake and Saskia Burmeister. Regular crew members returning for the third season include Jeremy Lindsay Taylor (Buffer), Matt Holmes (Swain), John Batchelor (Charge), Jay Ryan (Spider), Kristian Schmid (RO) and Kirsty Lee Allan (Bomber), along with a fresh new crew member in Nikolai Nikolaeff (2Dads).

Steve Bisley will reprise his role as Commanding Officer Steve Marshall. David Lyons (ET) returns to guest star along with Jessica Napier (McLeod’s Daughters, Stingers), Blair McDonough (Big Brother, Neighbours), Tasma Walton (Blue Heelers) and Robert Coleby who starred in the original Patrol Boat nearly 30 years ago.

The Royal Australian Navy is again supporting the mini-series, supplying production with numerous vessels and crews. A $60 million, Armidale-class patrol boat will again play the role of HMAS Hammersley.

Executive Producer, Di McElroy, said: ‘‘The title of the third series, Red Gold, refers to the deep-sea red fan coral whose weight is worth more than gold.”

Channel Nine’s Head of Drama, Jo Horsburgh, said: “Nine is thrilled to be embarking on the production of series three of Sea Patrol. We look forward to presenting this outstanding drama on the network in early 2009.”

The Sea Patrol cast will be filming at Mission Beach, Cairns and on the Gold Coast from now until February 2009.

  1. I guess its pretty subjective, Nathan. Sea Patrol is quite blokey and very action heavy. While I can understand Packed to the Rafters success – City Homicide’s beats me – personally I think its a pile of drivel and I’m very surprised it gets the ratings it does.

  2. i have watched every single episode of sea patrol and well . . .
    i don’t think it is that good

    definately not as good as its budget would suggest

    there are better aus dramas on tv now PTTR and city homicide this has lost its charm

    i might watch it anyway if there is nothing else on

  3. Very Exciting News by Nine.

    Its interesting as the press realease states that David Lyons (ET) is only returning to guest star????? I know he has gone to ER but still only back as a guest???
