Knight Rider wins extra episodes

NBC approves four extra episodes, but still no airdate for the series in Oz.

Knight Rider has been given an order for another four episodes by NBC -good news for the Seven Network which owns the rights to the show in Australia.

It follows extra episodes ordered for CBS’ The Mentalist, both just shy of a full season.

So far Fringe and 90210 have been picked up for full seasons.

In the US, Knight Rider has had a shaky start, so the four episode approval is a cautiously optimistic move by NBC.

In Australia the telemovie grabbed 902,000 viewers. Seven has indicated it will air the series in October but is yet to announce an airdate for the series.

  1. I agree with the point that extra eps does not necessarily mean renewal. Some shows like Moonlight looked set to be renewed and got extra eps after the strike, but in the end got axed. Back to You was also axed after eps for a second season had already started to be filmed. Both seem to have also ironically been mistakes, seeing as The Ex List retained just 60% of its Ghost Whisperer lead-in, only got 5.7 mill in just its second ep, and Moonlight was averaging around 7 million last season. And Back to You was replaced with Do Not Disturb, and that was axed after only a handful of episodes. I reckon The Mentalist will definitely see a second season, although Knight Rider is questionable. It’ll probably end up going for at least another season as its rating higher than some of NBC’s other shows ATM

  2. I too have taped the KR pilot, but haven’t gotten around to viewing it… It HAS to be better than the truly dire, cheapjack Team Knight Rider than Ten aired briefly a decade ago!

  3. When I hear about a show garnering a full season, it should make me feel more sure that the show will be around a bit longer. Both Surface and Invasion got full seasons and they were cancelled in the end.

I have no idea what Knight Rider is going to be like. I taped the movie when it was on but haven’t watched it yet. Seeing as there’s no sign of it appearing on 7 yet, it seems that they’re skeptical.

  4. I think at this point the orders for KR, The Mentalist and the Sarah Connor Chronicles are just script orders, not actual episodes at this point. Still, good to see them getting this far. I quite like what I’ve seen of The Mentalist.
