SBS has commissioned a local version of the Canadian reality series, The Next Great Leader.
As something of a “Political Idol” the original series puts five finalists through a series of challenges designed to prove why they should lead the country. Based on a nationwide competition in 1995 it seeks to engage youth in political debate.
The Canadian version offered a cash prize of $50,000 and included three former Prime Ministers as panellists.
The Aussie version will be produced by dSP Beyond for SBS.
dSP Beyond has forged a new venture with Canada’s Distraction to produce local versions from their format catalogue in Australia and New Zealand.
Distraction will be the exclusive international distributor outside of Australia and New Zealand for all dSP Beyond formats.
Beyond’s Mikael Borglund said,“Having a successful leading independent format distributor like Distraction as a partner is a must for TV production companies. dSP Beyond is excited to be joining forces with this entrepreneurial company to produce their formats in Australia and New Zealand.”
