Politician accuses TT of “ambush”

Who do you believe more? A politician or Today Tonight?

Who do you believe more? A politician or Today Tonight? It’s a bit of a line-ball right?

Tasmanian MP Norma Jamieson says she was hounded by a TT crew despite telling them she was ill.

Impassioned supporters rallied behind the 67-year-old politician yesterday after Today Tonight promoted an ambush interview over pension payments she wants increased.

An unwell Mrs Jamieson says she was hounded by a TT crew despite telling them she was ill.

Mrs Jamieson had turned down an interview with TT the night before, because she didn’t like what she saw as unfair treatment last time she appeared, but, writes The Advocate newspaper, it didn’t stop the crew turning up outside her New Town residence at 7.30am on Wednesday.

“They thrust a camera in my face as I went for my morning walk.

“I wasn’t feeling well and half the time I was draped over the garbage bin dry retching.”

TT executive producer Craig McPherson said: “To suggest TT hounded her is ludicrous. Reporter and crew approached her. She gave an interview and then said she felt sick as she had recently been struck by a bout of hayfever. The crew turned the camera off and offered to help her but she said she’d be OK.”

Mrs Jamieson said she was clear she did not want to talk to TT.

“It was not an interview. He kept firing questions at me.”

Mrs Jamieson had felt misrepresented when first interviewed by TT over a two-week challenge she accepted to live on the pension.

Devonport disability pensioner and grandmother Kath Milbourne said, “Norma is the only politician with the courage to step up to highlight how the review of pensions is taking too long. People ought to think about the good job she’s done to bring into the public arena the way pensioners live.”

  1. People knock shows like big brother, but at least they never pretended to be anything else. The real disease is our so called current affair programs like ACA and TT. When was the last time anyone with a journalism degree worked on either of these two programs. If you did have one, you would take down your degree every time your boss gave you yet another pathetic story to pursue.

  2. I love how the producer says the crew turned the camera off and offered to help her. Anyone who’s ever watched TT’s ambush “interviews” would have a hard time believing that.

  3. Yeah hopefully and with a lot of luck you will be right knoxoverstreet anything that weakens 2.5 and FMF is a good thing god knows why both of those do so well hopefully RSPCA will continue to do well or hopefully even better

  4. i thought going after ill people was sports journos job.. (g. polak style..)

  5. I’m sorry but : “To suggest TT hounded her is ludicrous. Reporter and crew approached her. She gave an interview and then said she felt sick as she had recently been struck by a bout of hayfever. The crew turned the camera off and offered to help her but she said she’d be OK.”
It does not sound remotly true. TT went too far with the bulls**t this time. “Turned the camera off and offered assistance” Classic!

  6. TT have a reputation for being trashy and completely lacking in morals so have to say I think Mrs Jamieson is telling the truth here. Who would have thought a politician telling the truth 🙂
