What's with all our former premiers working for the television industry?

Former Victorian premier Steve Bracks has been appointed to chair the Australian Subscription Television and Radio Association (ASTRA). He will take over from former New South Wales premier Nick Greiner, who is retiring.
Seems a lot of our premiers are happy to head up television industry groups. Former Queensland premier Wayne Goss is chairman of Free TV Australia – the industry body representing commercial, free-to-air TV licensees. The former Labor premiers are now in “opposing camps.”
Mr Bracks says he is looking forward to driving changes in digital media policy.
“It’s a great opportunity for me to be involved in something which is on the frontier of good public policy in Australia; and that is making sure that we have broadcasting legislation and rules which are designed not just for the next two or three years, but the next decade,” he said.
Bracks is also on several other company advisory boards.

With such shameful protection of the FTA networks by government, it seems like a logical step.
