Press Release:
The 2008 Emirates Melbourne Cup might be the race that stops a nation but it has Channel Nine’s TODAY team on the move.

To celebrate the Spring Racing Carnival, TODAY, Melbourne’s most popular breakfast program, will broadcast live from Bourke Street Mall on Friday, Monday and Tuesday. Hosts Karl Stefanovic and Lisa Wilkinson, along with Cameron Williams, Georgie Gardner, Richard Wilkins, Steve Jacobs and Hollywood gossip guru Richard Reid, are excited to saddle up in the city which rates them number one.

On Friday Reggie Wells, personal makeup artist for Oprah Winfrey, will join the team to give his tips on staying fresh and looking good. David Jones fashion ambassador Megan Gale talks race wear. Emma Freedman, of the Freedman racing dynasty, will have the latest on the fields for AAMI Victoria Derby Day on Saturday. Celebrity chef Luke Mangan will have some winning hampers for viewers who fancy a race day picnic at Flemington. And Axle Whitehead will rock the mall, performing his new single Satellite and top 10 hit I Don’t Do Surprises live.

On Monday, TODAY welcomes Kate and Gai Waterhouse to the broadcast in the lead-up to Tuesday’s big race. Luke Mangan returns with more amazing food ideas, and Tim Finn will be sure to please when he sings an acoustic version of the Split Enz smash hit, Six Months in a Leaky Boat.

Melbourne will be buzzing on Tuesday as racegoers flock to Flemington. If you’re dressed in your racing finery the place to head to first will be Bourke Street Mall where TODAY will give away two tickets to the exclusive Lexus Marquee on Crown Oaks Day and a $1000 David Jones wardrobe voucher.

Don’t miss the ultimate breakfast serving of fun, laughter, news and updates from around Australia and the world when TODAY rides into Melbourne for all the colour and excitement of Cup Week on Friday, Monday and Tuesday.

  1. @ Luke W,

Your strong belief wasn’t borne out by ratings. Today’s ratings in Melbourne for Friday were lower than normal. In fact, Sunrise was only a thousand viewers behind. And, are you suggesting that this pod thing be their permanent Melbourne home?

  2. Although I mainly watch Sunrise, I tuned into Today this morning, simply because it was in Melbourne.

I strongly believe that if Today was based in Melbourne, it would really challenge Sunrise as even more Melbourne viewers will make the switch. I know I would. They could broadcast live from one of the pods in the Souther Star Observation Wheel for something a little different!

  3. yeh i had to double take when i saw ‘oprah’ as well, Has she ever even done an australian interview??

lol, the article says ‘melbournes most popular breakfast show’. sunrise has the ‘australia’s’ tag dont they?? sunrise is heaps better.
