  1. David, surely at 957,000 The Strip should appear in the top 100 at about 45th place. Seems to be missing. Last weeks episode was actually better scripted and acted than the earlier offerings, holding out some hope for this to improve.
Off topic but Canal Road was better scripted and acted but absolutely murdered by Ch 9. I like The Mentalist and hope it lasts but not The Fringe. Ch7 & ch 2 still dominate my viewing though.

  2. TGA will be making a new season (I think have to talk to my recources) But if the ratings continue to fall it will be a waste of money. Its shame too I really enjoyed the second episode. People were turned off from watching it because the first episode was below all the hype.

The second episode was a good step in the right direction.

  3. “Does anyone know why SBS showed an episode from Season 4 of Mythbusters on Saturday when the previous episodes being shown were from Season 6.”

I want to know this also, not that any Mythbusters is bad and it let me record an ep I don’t have but they are still to finish S6 and S7 is on in the US.

Can we expect to get more S4 until 09?

BTW good numbers for the v8s!

  4. I love the people that come on this blog and say “I love Prison Break”, “I love Lost”, “I love Heroes”, “I hate Today Tonight”, “I hate Border Secuiry”, “the evil TV networks are always messing with my favourite shows, i’m so hurt by it and i’m going to punish them by not watching”. Its hilarious.

No one has said that, you’re just twisting people’s words around to try and get a reaction out of people. For one, I highly doubt that anyone would be “hurt” by a TV network, I download those because I can’t be assed sitting at a certain time in a certain place every week, I like to fit it in with my schedule as I see fit, not any of this “fight the superstructure of the corporate entities we call television networks” crap that you seem to be spouting from your mind. If anything, all you’ve proved is you’re insecure about other people’s OPINIONS on the INTERNETS and you enjoy twisting their words to make them appear as if they’re highly emotive about a subject as trivial as television. If I find a show to be a woeful waste of celluloid, like Border Security and 2.5 men, I’ll express my opinion, but that doesn’t mean I “hate it” or “want to punish TV networks by not watching”, it means I have a different taste than you. Try building a bridge.

  5. I actually think that the entire series on DVD has effected the ratings of so many shows. It’s so good to be able to watch them in your own time and without commercials.

As for the lack of interest in shows that were once the most popular, I am the only one in my family that has stuck with shows such as Lost, Prison Break and Hero’s. A lot of others I know have also given up but it did have a lot to do with the chopping and changing of nights and times. Once people missed a couple of shows they didn’t understand what was going on, so they gave up. I use my hard disk recorder a lot, actually I record a lot of shows and watch them when it suits me better. I’ve only just gotten into the whole thing of downloading shows but have only done it with Lost and Dexter so far.

I very rarely would watch a movie on TV and then it might only be on in the background, normally I’ve seen them on DVD. It really is strange how the viewing habbits have changed from when I was a kid. I remember the Sunday night movie being such a big deal, plus I use to have to ask my parents really nicely if I could stay up to watch it, doubt any kid would have to do that these days.

  6. Benno, I’d say you’re right about people watching DVDs instead. I for one got sick of the channels mucking around with the programming of favourite shows, and have waited for DVDs instead. In the case of The Sopranos’ final season, it was already out on DVD before 9 finally got around to showing it. Same with The West Wing, brushed by 9 and finally shown by 2. We have persisted with LOST though, but when it moved to the later timeslot, we recorded it and watched episodes back to back which alleviated the frustration caused by the show’s drawn-out storylines. As for Heroes, we’ve watched previous seasons but decided to miss the new one and hire it on DVD later. It’s good to be able to control the timing, rather than have your show halted mid-season like the channels are want to do for things such as Easter for example. I don’t remember the last time I was able to watch a whole season of a show without there being a disruption. I will also download but only if I’m desperate as it uses too much MB.

  7. I never said that 1.6 million downloaded the show, i said that there is no way that 80% (1.6 million) lost interest in the show since that is the difference from premiere to last episode aired here. My guess is about 600,000 people watched a downloaded copy, or waited for dvd’s instead of watch it on 7. That would mean that 1 million (half the audience) lost interest, which would be a huge number. Of course, i don’t have real figures, but lost in the states has only lost about 30% of its audience from its premiere.

  8. Benno, I doubt 1.6m Australians download “Lost”. My entire extended family watched it religiously for the first couple of seasons and now none of us watch it, although I’ve bought the DVDs and intend to watch them one day. I know we’re only talking about 20 people here, but it’s more likely that people lost interest in the show than 80% of the audience decided to download it.

PB, on the other hand, is something that we all record and watch….although I’m not sure how OzTam deals with recorded shows (does the recorded show get the rating or the one on the screen at the time? Does using OzTam mean you can’t record something and watch something else?).

  9. Carta, i never watched lost, but it started with over 2 million here, and was down to about 400,000. I guarantee that 80% of the audience didn’t lose interest, and found it elsewhere. Same with prison break. I think it makes a huge difference for ‘cult’ serial shows if you will.

  10. PB is 6 eps behind us as of right now and before the next ep airs it will again be 7 eps behind, putting it closer to 2 months, not that it matters ’cause IMO anything over 2 weeks is NOT fast tracking!

I agree that the DL make up a small part of the audiance and most of those are likely to watch it again anyway, I think it has more to do with the lack of promotion and the crap 10:30 start!. Heroes and the others were all flat Thursday, all getting about the same numbers with only L&O breaking 1 mill and not by a huge amount. Maybe the problem is there is no clear leader at 8:30 on Thursday? Lets see what happens with Amazing Race next week.
