When Sarah met Tina

It was a very funny opening to Saturday Night Live as Governor Sarah Palin watched Tina Fey's impression backstage on a monitor.

Presidential candidate Sarah Palin watched backstage as Tina Fey did her best impression on Saturday Night Live on the weekend.

In a press conference sketch, Fey answered lots of questions with Palin’s “gee whiz” style of politics.

Backstage Palin watched the 30 Rock star on a monitor and proved she was a good sport. Also making an appearance was Mark Wahlberg, and Alec Baldwin (but you’ll have to watch the clip to see for yourself).

Finally, Palin and Fey crossed paths as the Alaskan Governor threw to the opening of the show.

  1. Again, I couldn’t decide if this was a really smart move or a really stupid move for Palin – possibly it was clever to go on, but not do too much. The opening Tina Fey piece I thought was brilliant, and while the “backstage” section had a good script, it featured oddly stilted performances from everyone (including Baldwin).

It’s curious that the second sketch, in which Amy Poehler does a Palin-themed rap, has been embraced by many of the right-wing blogs who are reprinting the lyrics – apparently unaware it’s actually anti-Palin, not pro.

  2. Where do I begin?! The hilarity was expected given that Tina Fey and Amy Poehler are both comedic gems, but as much as I abhor the very foundation on which Sarah Palin has built her moral values and political views, props must be given where props are due.

She really was ballsy going on a show that not only ridicules her on a weekly basis, but positions itself fully in the Democratic corner. Heck, it’s NY! She’s lucky she wasn’t pelted with rotten fruit by the people who work at NBC!

I would have liked to have seen a “Palin Off” with her and Tina both doing their best “you betchas” and “mavericks”, but we can’t always get what we want.

And for the record, Stephen was always my favourite Baldwin too.

    Tina Fey for President y’all.

  3. I think she’s a moron and I live in fear that somehow her and the old bloke will steal the election like Bush did in the past…but I gotta give her credit for going anywhere near that show. It’s gutsy. Or stupid. I can’t decide which.

  4. I’m an Obama supporter and don’t like what Palin represents, but give her credit she seems to have a sense of humour.

The send up of that crazy woman from the MCCain rally was gold!
