World Premiere for Project Greenlight feature

The winners of the script contest started by Matt Damon & Ben Affleck are about to see their film on the big screen.

The winners of the 2006 Project Greenlight Australia competition will finally have their first feature film, The View from Greenhaven, released this month.

Starring Wendy Hughes and Chris Haywood, who both appeared in 1978’s Newsfront, the film is written and directed by the McCrae Brothers -winners of the second PGA contest. The script competition was originally conceived by Matt Damon and Ben Affleck and held in Australia via the Movie Extra channel.

The brothers won a $1m budget to make their movie about a retired couple living in an idyllic coastal town who have the perfect lifestyle – but Dash, the husband, is just too grumpy to see it.

Press Release:

“The View From Greenhaven” is the first feature film written and directed by Simon and Kenn MacRae, and it will be a dream come true for the brothers when it makes its world premiere next week,
released by Movie Network Channels.

As winners of Movie Extra’s 2006 Project Greenlight Australia filmmaking competition (from a series format originally developed by actors Matt Damon and Ben Affleck), The MacRae Brothers were awarded a$1 million prize to develop their first feature film. The result of that funding is The View from Greenhaven, a sentimental and visually beautiful film about rediscovering why life is made for living.

The film reunites on screen the once-married co-stars Wendy Hughes and Chris Haywood for the first time in 30 years, with their last film together being 1978’s Newsfront. Both stars will walk the red carpet at next Thursday’s world premiere for The View From Greenhaven at the Hayden Orpheum in Sydney. They will also appear on stage for a special live intro to the screening, “Angela Bishop in conversation with Wendy Hughes and Chris Haywood.”

In Greenhaven, Hughes and Haywood play a retired couple living in an idyllic coastal town who have the perfect lifestyle – but Dash, the husband, is just too grumpy to see it. On their wedding anniversary their daughter and son-in-law surprise them with a mystery train tour. But Dash’s lack of enthusiasm and negativity has Dot losing faith in him, so with their marriage in jeopardy, Dash is forced to start trying to view their lives through fresh eyes…and being confronted with something from his past may just help them out.

The Producer for The View From Greenhaven is Martin Brown, whose earlier credits include the Academy Award winning Moulin Rouge.

  1. Pleasently surprised, this is a quality Australian film and very entertaining. It’s not a “smash and bash” film but enjoyable and pleasent to watch. It ticketed all the right box’s for my wife and I which is rare. Worth the movie ticket, sure to be a success.

  2. wow such a limited release for a film which won such a big comp. I guess it’s because it’s really a made for tv movie paraded as a feature cinema film. That’s the trouble with greenlight the good quality films get dropped early in the process (because it’s judged by non professionals)and you end up with the same boring old non money making Australian film that the critics rave about and the paying public wouldn’t touch with a 20 foot pole!

Good actors in a substandard projects. When will we learn to let some creative new blood in and make films that aussies want to see and stop making films that try and show how intelligent and special we are. A good smash and bash would make a fortune and all aussies would love to see it.

But alas too many of the same people are given the same money to produce the same cr@p! (not these project greenlight guys they are just starting out) Aussie cinema is dead!
