Airdate: GNW Awards

Viewers are invited to vote for the newsmakers of 2008 in the inaugural Good News Week Awards.

For its finale edition, Good News Week is having a two hour awards show.

Described as “a mix between the Nobel Prize and the Logies” it will look back on the newsmakers, for better or worse, and decide who is worthy of gongs in Entertainment, Religion, Sport, Science, Politics and Photo of the Year.

Viewers can vote in the categories on the GNW website.

The show airs 8:30pm Monday November 24 and returns at the top of the television year in February 2009.

Press Release:
Monday 24th November 2008 will see the second-most anticipated event of 2008, the GOOD NEWS WEEK 2008 AWARDS.

Years of dissecting, discussing and deliberating over worldwide news and current affairs has given Paul McDermott a vision. An awards ceremony to rival that of the world’s greatest – a mix between the Nobel Prize and the Logies. Hail the inaugural Good News Week 2008 Awards!

Scouring through news archives from throughout the year, McDermott with the help of his legion of loyal leaders, Claire Hooper and Mikey Robins, have nominated outstanding achievers for the Award categories: Entertainment, Religion, Sport, Science, Politics and Photo of the Year.

With the assistance of GNW favourites, Cal Wilson, Tom Gleeson, Akmal Saleh, Colin Lane and more, the Good News Week 2008 Awards will be decided by the Australian public to ensure the most deserving are decided.

So what’s their tip for the winning picks?

PAUL MCDERMOTT – “It’s a close call for the religion award but I’d back the Wives of Muslim Extremists for demanding equal rights for women to be suicide bombers.”

CLAIRE HOOPER – “I’m guessing Kyle Sandilands for the Entertainment award for giving away tickets
to his wedding on his radio show.”

MIKEY ROBINS – “Geoffrey Miller from the University of Mexico’s onto something – how the hell did he discover that lap-dancers earn more in tips when they’re ovulating?”

  2. 2 hours… yay 🙂 Plenty of time for them to ffit in Sandman and Flacco and have Paul sing for the first time this year 🙂 Good to hear it’s coming back in 2009.

  3. I’ve been reading on my online listing (yourtv) that last week’s and this week’s GNW were supposed to be “Best-Of” compilations. But they haven’t been, they’re full proper shows. Who’s making the mistakes on that one?

  4. So I guess no Supernatural on the 24th?

David the question I want answered is with the fast tracked shows such as Supernatural, House, NCIS, Heroes ect will they once again leave a few new shows hanging over the break or will they air them in non ratings December?

  5. so they were right it is a 2 hour special, which means no supernatural that week, but will it be back the week after? perhaps in a double? and if not what else will go in the 8:30 and 9:30 slots?
