Airdate: Out of the Blue. Bumped: TEN Late News

TEN declares a timeslot for Aussie soap, Out of the Blue -but not where you'd expect it.

As tipped by TV Tonight, TEN has now slated the Aussie soap Out of the Blue into its schedule.

But unlike many who were expecting it as an early evening soap, it will instead be stripped at 10:30pm weeknights. The series begins with the reunion of old school friends in Manly, but soon leads to murder.

That pushes TEN Late News with Sports Tonight to 11pm with The Late Show with David Letterman set at 11:45pm.

The Aussie-made soap, recently got a second lease on life when it was picked up by Five in the UK, following a disappointing reception on the BBC. TEN screening it over summer will pick up some much-needed local content points from the show.

The first episode airs on Monday November 17.

  1. Out of the Blue should be on Sunday late afternoon 4.00pm or 4.30pm or a weeknight no later than 9.30pm. I really enjoyed the show. I missed some of the early episodes I would like the show to start over & be available to buy on dvd for under $40 for season 1. Thanks Rosmary

  2. I’m sorry this show is utter crap and i predict the axe will fall very shortly. I couldn’t sit through the entire first episode, lame storylines, bad acting, bland cinematography. where is the appeal? looks like another Canal Road!

  3. I’ve starting watching OOTB and really like it, but it’s on just too late, if it was on earlier I’d definitely watch this rather than 7. Yes, why can’t they replace W&G.

  4. Letterman was great at 11:15, just after the news. FFS TEN, just can this rubbish and restore order to the universe by putting things back the way they were.

  5. The timing is rubbish but make the effort to record this as it really is worth it! The storylines can be a little far fetched but does seem more realistic than Neighbours or H&A. I hope this doesn’t mean the end of OOTB if tv execs in the UK and Australia aren’t appreciating its awesomeness! Enjoy xx

  6. It’s a shame Ten are airing the show so late. It currently airs at 1pm here in the UK on BBC Two. However, the BBC said it was too “adult” to be aired after Children’s BBC.

Channel Five in the UK have picked up the repeat rights for the show, so there’s still hope for the show. It is fantastic and people should set the Video for it.

  7. god dam it this move is ridiclous!!! and i doubt the classification is the problem considering californication was on at 9.40 a few weeks ago!! i dont want to wait till 11 to watch my news with sandra!!! how can they seriously think a show like that which teens would watch, that they would be up that l8??? Get your head out of your ass Ten! David you should send all these to Ten!

  8. Well Ten had a similiar thing going in the early 90’s with Breakers. It had an afternoon timeslot,an evening timeslot, here a slot there a slot…and it was’nt a bad little show. What on earth is Neighbours still doing on?H&A for that matter. These shows are vile & embarrissing…honestly they are.I caught a few glimpses of Neighbours yesterday & it just hasn’t gone anywhere.Get out of that street, you idiots!Time to pull the plug & get something a little jucier, realistic.Something that doesn’t,still look like it is shot in a studio. The sets are dreadful.Ten should have chopped N’bours & took over Always Greener, made it a half hour stunner at 7pm.This was a great show with a great cast & great storylines…until the Dr Love shite (one day your gonna get caught) Matt.
    To dream……….
    Thank goodness for Eastenders.

  9. It aired early afternoon here in the UK – but flopped spectacularly. Neighbours used to get over 2m in the slot, but Out of the Blue fell to less than 100,000 at times.

And what I saw of it wasn’t that great – whether Aussie audiences will appreciate it more I don’t know, but it’s certainly not gritty enough for a late night slot.

  10. would have thought Ten could use the pm slot to try ‘another soap as lead in for neighbours.

Haven’t we seen enough Simpsons ?

P.S. David, what is latest time slot networks can use for local content – 10.30 pm i guess

  11. What an awful timeslot for a first run Australian drama. This reminds me of when Ten put Echo Point on at that time, but at least it was given a chance at an earlier timeslot. Ten seems to be trying to kill this show before it is shown.

Or in the words of Mr KB Wilson “It was over before it began”!

  12. Ive seen some episodes of OOTB & have been looking forward to it starting (primarily as Im sick of having to watch gore just for a good storyline, so its great to have a G / PG ? rated murder mystery without quite so much gore), but 10.30 is so past my bedtime (young kids) ! & as a 30 something soap addict I would have thougt I was prime target audience!

  13. And then if you have 10 airing late running live shows like Idol, etc, news will be on even later than 11. OOTB start time will also fluctuate. Agree with comments above. Put on at 7pm and edit.

  14. This is an absolutely ridiculous move Network Ten. I would really love to hear their rationale for this truely absurb timeslot.

But now that it has been announced, what odds will give me for Out of the Blue to air every weeknight at 10:30 pm uninterrupted for its entire run of 130 episodes from Monday 17 November 2008 through to Friday 15 May 2009?

  15. How dumb is this idea? If they do say they are showing it late for classificaiton reasons, then thats a damn lie. They edit Freinds and Simpsons and air it earleir.

In the UK, they show OOTB in early evening, and they even edit Neighbours which is G rated in Australia. So what are TEN thinking, that we are all stupid and dont realise these things?

  16. Pathetic move by Ten. OOTB is an absolutely fantastic show and deserves much better. Hope people give it a chance – we’re coming to the end of the run here in the UK now but it’s still as gripping as ever!

  17. You would think that they might have at least tried it in an earlier spot for a couple of weeks before putting it on at 10.30pm. Especially since Are You Smarter Than A Fifth Grader is ending next week, Jamie Oliver has finished, The Simpsons is in repeats and Download has been axed.

I would have moved The Simpsons/Kennys World to Thursdays and tried out double episodes of Out of the Blue on Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 7.30pm.

  18. If classification is such an issue, then would someone care to explain how Bold and the Beautiful has been getting away with a G rating for all these years? (and yes, I know that some episodes/storylines have been cut; however, the series still deserves a PG).

  19. Absolute craziness.

    Another stupid move by Ten.

A teen soap at 10.30pm? WTF? Who has ever heard of a nightly soap at 10.30pm.

In a slot where Ten News has been for over 15 years.

What are they thinking? This move will keep any chance the soap had. I agree – put it at 6.30 or 7pm over summer. And if it takes off – keep it at 6 into the ratings season with neighbours at 6.30.

As for classification (if it couldnt air at 6 or 7) ummm, well EDIT it! Like thy do with movies all the time
