Former Australian Idol singer Dean Geyer is quitting his acting stint in Neighbours to pursue a music career.

“It has been a really weird year for me. It has been really up in some areas and really down in others,” he told the Herald Sun.

Geyer also admitted he had struggled with some of the storylines involving his character, which contradicted his own lifestyle.

“In some instances my personal beliefs maybe were contradicting with what the character was doing,” he said.

“I am not saying I was forced to do anything, but looking at the character I don’t necessarily agree with everything he did.

“I was fairly happy with how Ty turned out, I really enjoyed playing Ty, but I needed a lifestyle change.”

Geyer is the second Australian Idol contestant to appear as a regular on the show, following Dan O’Connor, and at least the third to be drawn from a TEN reality series.

  2. Glad he will be going. What a stupid thing to say….So I guess he wouldn’t really steal pain medication from a doctor then like his character did? It’s not real moron!!

  3. This is so weird – right after Idol he turned down a role in Neighbours to concentrate on his music career. Then his music career didn’t go so well so the role was re-offered to him and he took it. And now he’s leaving to concentrate on his music career. ha.
    That said this is pretty convienient given Caitlin Stasey is also leaving. I bet wherever one of the characters goes first the other one will follow. Dan O’Connor was waaay better an actor than Dean was.

  4. He can’t act, it’s as simple as that. I doubt he will ever get another acting job again and I think his music career is pretty much dead in the water.

  5. I hope the next character they have on Neighbours is a matriach type character. It seems all the men on Neighbours can go to their 60’s, but for the women once they start getting into their 50’s they’re killed off or go off on a holiday never to return!

    Singers using soaps to boost their singing profile, then making silly comments about not understanding what acting is.Oops maybe Dean forgot that being part of ensemble cast means working together, not being the star.

    isnt that pretty much what an actors does, play a person who isnt him or herself, and as such makes different decisions to what the actor would make themself?
