Guy and Shannon who?

"For the first time in Australian Idol history," says a TEN press release, "the final comprises of two males." Really?

Bit of a silly blunder from TEN publicity this week. In its info for the Australian Idol final, it reckons: “For the first time in Australian Idol history, the final comprises of two males.”

How quickly we forget.

In 2003 the very first Idol finale was a battle between Guy Sebastian and Shannon Noll. After omitting Neighbours from the 2009 Programming Press Release it is the second proof-reading blunder this week.

Ah well… nobody (including TV Tonight) is perfect!

Press Release:

From over 38,000 people who auditioned for Australian Idol in 2008, two finalists remain. Both Idols will take to the stage, live from the Sydney Opera House and perform for the last time before one of them is crowned Australian Idol 2008.

After 13 weeks on air and over 110 live performances, the two finalists have survived 10 Verdict shows and now face their last challenge – each other.

For the first time in Australian Idol history, the final comprises of two males. They will take to the stage and perform a number of different songs, including some of the favourites from throughout the series and of course, the winner’s single.

Joining the two finalists at the Sydney Opera House will be the remaining contestants from the Top 12. They return for one last time to take part in the concert and celebrate the journey and achievements of the two finalists.

The Finale will be hosted by Andrew G, James Mathison and Ricki-Lee Coulter and will incorporate numerous
performances from all of the Top 12, plus special guest acts. It will be a glittering night of surprises
and high emotions as Australia countdowns to the announcement of the sixth Australian Idol winner.

  1. Jack! of course you have a right to think the first 2 Idol winners are overrated. It is your opinion and everyone has a right to that. I am slightly curious though. You seem to be preoccupied with the fact that Guy Sebastian is a Christian. I swear to God mate. I had no idea religion was such a sin. As you also make mention of Shannon’s country origins, do you also have something against sheep. I perhaps can understand you might have a problem with the harmless little wooly things which help keep us warm and also are responsible for some delicious Sunday lunches, as there has been some publicity about their continuous passing of wind exacerbating the greenhouse effect. But Christians no. They are no more flatuent than the next person.

  2. I completely agree Diane.. Let’s not also forget that Guy’s last album hit triple platinum and was the 2nd highest selling Australian album of 2007! He is a magnificient talent and I’m so glad he’s such a strong force in the Aussie music industry 🙂

  3. Wow a trip down memory lane with that photo of Guy and Shannon – they look pretty happy to be the last men standing in 2003!

so far away from where they are now!

Guy seems to be going from strength to strength – first the Memphis Soul Legends singing his praises and now John Mayer playing guitar and singing vocals on Guy’s next originals album.

I guess there are always going to be detractors of the Idol machine but no one can deny the fact that talent does emerge from Idol and Guy is a perfect example of this with high profile international artists like Mayer wanting to work with him!

  4. Oh I get it now Jack. You mean Guy is overrated by those Memphis Soul legends, and musicians like John Mayer, David Ryan Harris and toss in some Aussies like Jimmy Barnes, Martin Plaza and Greedy Smith from Mental As Anything, and many more I could mention, who have either stepped on stage with him or spoken about what an amazing talent he is. Now I getcha. Because you don’t like him all these people whose musical knowledge would leave yours for dead should be put aside for your opinion. No problem mate. I now concur. If Jack the expert on overrating thinks Guy is overrated he obviously is. lol

  5. I agree Jack and it applies to Shannon noll aswell,I cant stand the sight of that other idol shannon who cant even open his mouth. He mumbles every time i hear him on telly.

  6. Julie and Sammy:
I don’t care who those others are you mentioned … I can’t stand the sight or sound of Guy Sebastian and no so called “expert” will ever change that. I always see him as compromised between the “rock” world and the “christian” world. That is just my personal view and what the hell does “research” have to do with it!
    Jack!

  7. I’m with you there Sammy…..re the Legends of Soul and now John Mayer playing guitar and backup vocals on Guy’s next album being released early 2009.
They are more than impressed with Guy.
Obviously Jack writes without doing any research for the right information.

  8. Oh dear …not a wonder the Idol ratings are so low ….3 people to introduce what a joke.
They thought if they have RLee the rating will go up,it dont work that way ch 10 ..and monday nights is the worst night of Idol. They said they have outstanding singers this year and so they say every year, and what a flop again.
They should change the judges and the so called 3 itroduction kinda people..I still cant see what RLee is doing ,they should only have James.American Idol is sooooo huge and they only have Ryan, what a joke ch 10.I am sure when the winners single /album comes out it will be a flop like all the other idols was,Guy /Damien was the only idols who are still going ,I dont even hear about Damien anymore .The 2 succesful idols are Guy /Shannon.
what a joke ch 10.shame shame shame

  9. Steve Cropper, Donald “Duck” Dunn, Eddie Floyd, David Ryan Harris and John Mayer don’t think Guy is overrated Jack. They have nothing but praise and respect for him. If you don’t know who the first 3 are just google Soul legends.

  10. I’m with 10 … I prefer to completely forget that the country boy and the Christian were ever in the show in the first place … they are so overrated!
    Jack!

  11. I don’t think it’s a typo or a proofreading error – it’s actually a major factual blunder, because it forms the basis of the article. Discussing the “first ever all-male Top 4” has no relevance to the final itself, so whoever chose the angle of the story got it wrong from the start.

As for Lisa Standing, I don’t recall any mention of her being Aboriginal – a Torres Strait Islander, maybe?

  12. Is nt that kind of like TEN saying that the first Aboriginal housemate entered the Big Brother House this year. In the first series, Lisa the fence sitter was Aboriginal, was not she?

  13. Ch10 is so worried about its own immediant future its making the simplest of Error. Im sure they were going for ‘for the 1st time ever, the top 4 is all males’
