Little House ban in Finland

Pioneer-drama Little House on the Prarie is to be sold in Finland with a sticker: "Banned for under-18s."

Of all the ludicrous stories….. DVDs of Little House on the Prairie, the 1970s family pioneering drama, has been banned for viewing by kids in Finland.

It is to be sold with a sticker saying “Banned for under-18s.”

But the outcome follows an economic decision by Universal Pictures which decided not to submit the series for classification.

Finnish authorities charge 2 euros ($2.57) per minute for assessing the correct age limit on films and television series.

“Long series can get quite expensive to check, and some use this exemption in the law to their advantage,” said Matti Paloheimo, Director at the Finnish Board of Film Classification.

“Such unchecked material should not be shown to children publicly,” he added.

Little House on the Prairie ran from 1974 to 1983 and was based on the Laura Ingalls Wilder’s children’s book of the same name.

  1. what happened on this show, surely nothing more shocking than the crap home & away is playing. Also the same country that repeatedly sends people in costumes depicting death to eurovision, gotta love it

  2. Rubbish? It’s a great series and at one time I was thinking about getting the books! Sure it got a bit maudlin at times but at it’s best a wonderful depiction of pioneering america.

  3. I was kind of hoping they’d ban it because it’s rubbish 😀

The ACB in Australia charges similarly ludicrous fees, though not in the same way. Censorship is a big moneymaker for governments.
