Secret Hidden Cam wins Comedy Gold

My Girlfriend’s Secret Hidden Camera TV Show wins the Comedy Channel's $25,000 script contest at the SPAA Conference.

Victorian writer director Gordon Napier has won the Comedy Channel’s annual pitching competition, Comedy Gold at the Screen Producers Conference on the Gold Coast.

Napier’s comedy reality series My Girlfriend’s Secret Hidden Camera TV Show wins a $25,000 development grant from the Comedy Channel towards becoming a fully fledged series.

He fought off strong competition from four other finalists in the battle. Napier is previously a finalist in MovieExtra’s Project Greenlight contest.

Last year’s winner I Can’t Believe It’s Not Better, by comedy writers Sean Condon and Rob Hibbert, has advanced to stage two of the development process and anticipated to screen in 2009.

Press Release:
THE COMEDY CHANNEL last night unveiled the winner of its annual pitching competition, Comedy Gold, at the 2008 Screen Producers Association of Australia (SPAA) Conference on the Gold Coast.

Beating stiff competition to win the $25,000 program development grant is a comedy reality series, which has the working title My Girlfriend’s Secret Hidden Camera TV Show.

My Girlfriend’s Secret Hidden Camera TV Show was created by writer/director Gordon Napier who will now develop the concept for THE COMEDY CHANNEL.

Announcing the winner, THE COMEDY CHANNEL’s Channel Manager Alex Ristevski said he was thrilled to give aspiring producers the chance to pitch program ideas in such a forum.

“We are delighted with the quality of entrants we have received this year. Comedy Gold reinforces THE COMEDY CHANNEL’s commitment to Australian comedy development and production and we look forward to supporting this innovative local comedy.”

THE COMEDY CHANNEL, which is owned and operated by FOXTEL, launched its Comedy Gold initiative as part of last year’s SPAA Conference, inviting writers, performers and producers to submit a concept of up to three-pages in length and video footage to illustrate the proposal.

The winner receives $25,000 to develop their concept.

My Girlfriend’s Secret Hidden Camera TV Show was chosen from five finalists, judged by FOXTEL’s Executive Director of Television and Marketing Brian Walsh, Director of Programming Ross Crowley and THE COMEDY CHANNEL’s Channel Manager Alex Ristevski.

The winner of last year’s competition I Can’t Believe It’s Not Better, created by comedy writers Sean Condon and Rob Hibbert, has advanced to stage two of the development process with the likelihood it will screen on THE COMEDY CHANNEL next year.

The Screen Producers Association of Australia (SPAA) Conference is the premiere business and networking event for film, television and new media producers.
