Sex and the sequel

After storming the box office, Carrie Bradshaw and the gals are talking up a sequel for 2010.

Do you still want more Sex and the City? You could be gettin’ it.

Sarah Jessica Parker says shooting on the Sex and the City: The Movie sequel will start next summer (US).

SJP says, “I think shooting next summer is a realistic timetable. That’s when we’d start shooting to be out in 2010. But that means we need to figure this out in the next couple of months.”

Parker also revealed the main hurdle in getting the movie off the ground is finding a realistic premise for the plot.

“We’ve had very general conversations about the idea. That’s the big hurdle: the idea. The studio is very enthusiastic, which is lovely and seductive,” she said.

“We’re at the place where the writer and director, Michael Patrick King, has a wealth of stories so now it’s, ‘We think we have this story and how do we put this together and are we completely sure that it’s the right thing to do?'”

The film did good business at the box office when it was released mid-year, taking in nearly $27m in the US and Canada on its first day. Internationally it took over $400m. Such was the fury of the movie’s success it even triggered false talks of a Friends movie. How long til’ that returns to the rumour mill? At least the Arrested Development movie sounds a tad more concrete.

  1. I’m going against the tide here, I Liked the movie. It had drama it had laughs, it was like a whole 7th season. I liked that Charlotte was happy, while the others went through their dramas. Can’t see where else they could go for a sequel, but I will enjoy seeing Samantha back on the prowl again. They would have to bring one or two of Carries exes back to stir things up b/w her & Big.

  2. They should bring out a Will & Grace Movie 🙂

Anyway, that show is all slutting around and nothing else. Its a wonder how so many woman are inspired bu these moronic women. I tried watching an episode and was disgusted. The worst show ever made.

  3. Well the Friends movie can never happen… it would be terrible. Take a laugh track out of that show and you realise how unfunny it is. AD movie is still questionable because of Michael Cera’s bizarre comments. Considering the show launched him he owes it to them to return. He’s done nothing better since and his star will fade.

As for a SATC sequel, ofcourse I’d encourage it but a quality storyline is hard to think up.
There are too many things that can’t be done. There couldn’t be: A wedding, Life threatening illness, Cheating, Divorce, Pregnancy, Or a trip to Paris

Carrie having a baby would be a cop out. It could play out with a more episodic style with no major storyline. Carrie could simply be working on a new book, Samantha could simply be seeing another celebrity client (insert cameo here) like the Lucy Liu episode. Something like when the sailors came into town could happen and the girls could be tempted to stray. Hell maybe Carrie could cheat… I like that idea. I know she did with what’s his name but who the hell remembers.

  4. I am one of the Biggest fans of the series and I was So Disapointed by the Movie. The Story Arcs for the Girls were horrible

Carrie – Unbelieveable in the wedding collapse
Miranda – Steve had an affair, soooo cliche
Charlotte – She had no damb storyline
Samantha – It was a deconstruction of the brillance that was her arc in S06. It Killed it.
Jennifer Hudsons – Again no storyline. no revalation. nothing

I just Hope To God that the Sequel will have somthing of the brilliance of storylines and writing that was in the series.

  5. mmm, why dont they just retitle it a “Golden Girls” movie and be done with it..Kim Cattrall will be pushing 55 by the time this is out…I loved the show but wasnt a big fan of the movie at all, all I could picture was my mother and her girlfriends sitting around gabbing about sex..not a pleasant thought..I found a couple of the story arcs beyond belief as well…Samantha becoming a binge eater..please and most of all, there is no way in hell the Carrie from the show would have got married without alll the other girls there..(sorry, to anyone that hasnt seen it, but its been out 6 months now so I would think anyone that wanted to see it would have by now!)
