TiVo dumps Unwired

TiVo's licensee will take over management of services that was to have been delivered by Unwired.

Seven Media is cutting partnership ties with broadband group Unwired.

The broadband wireless operator was to spearhead TiVo’s retail distribution push and deliver technical, billing and customer service support but that plan has been binned because SMG’s Hybrid Television unit, which holds the Australian license for TiVo, is taking over management of those services.

“By early next year everything will be back in-house,” said an executive.

But Seven spokesman, Simon Francis, said the company remained committed to Unwired’s role in the group.

“The decision on Unwired and TiVo is a pragmatic shift in streamlining consumer availability for TiVo and customer support through major retail channels,” he told the Sydney Morning Herald. “We remain excited about … wireless delivery of television programming and data. Unwired forms part of our plans for the delivery of … content across multiple platforms.”

  1. Nicely summed up folks.

Whilst can be tempted with adverts for TIVO, there is the “support factor” or is this another Beta/vhs situation…

Seems to me, a lot is being promised by different entities – who do you trust ?

For me, it ain’t the networks based on their past record.
Might just splash $100 on set top HD box.

  2. people probably arent buying them. because they already had one. in foxtel iq. when seven advertised this non stop during the olympics. they made it out to be the fist ever one made. thats false advertising

  3. “…a pragmatic shift in streamlining consumer availability for TiVo and customer support through major retail channels”?

None of which actually means anything, of course. Gotta love corporate-speak.

Dot dot dot sums it up perfectly 😀
