Two and a Half Men takes a hit

Nine's sitcom dropped audience numbers on Tuesday while shows before and afterwards improved on last week.

Two and a Half Men slipped to a “new low” last night of 807,000 viewers last night, a long way behind last week when it had 1.005m in the same timeslot a week ago.

It was thrashed by Packed to the Rafters on 2.06m viewers. NCIS had 1.23m up from last week’s 1.19m.

No doubt Seven’s Melbourne Cup helped drive audiences to Seven’s shows, although both The Zoo and Find My Family dipped slightly from last week.

Many have argued that Nine’s wall to wall programming of Two and a Half Men will eventually backfire, just as constant screenings of Gordon Ramsay have done. Interestingly, both shows either side of the sitcom, The Chopping Block and 20 to 1 went up for Nine.

It remains to be seen whether Tuesday night is the turning of the tide. Wednesday nights have been the show’s biggest audience.

  1. I like Two and Half Men, but eventually I’ll see all the eps at this stage I haven’t.

I think they need to start cranking out the new ones, advertise them as new and do a new graphic or something. Then perhaps scale back down the repeats or they’ll kill their golden goose.

  2. I was one that said this
“Nine’s wall to wall programming of Two and a Half Men will eventually backfire”

What next ? wall to wall CSI. We already have Nine being sneaky with 20-1 or 10-1 being slotted in for so many obscure lists.

Come on Channel Nine, show us what other product you have and give the Public a chance to tell you if it is good or bad. (BTW, that means leaving shows on for at least 3 weeks at same time and day.

  3. I doubt people were really out partying when over 700,000 melbournian’s were all watching PTTR
I think it’s just a tad early to call the end to the 2.5 Braincells madness…as long as Nine continue to show it then the people shall come…and as long as it serves as a good lead-in for The Big Bang Theory then i’ll be stoked, and for once be happy that the show can actually do something good for once

  4. well i guess this goes to show that the 1.5 mil that watch on Wed, 700k of them only watch it because there is nothing else on. not because they love the show so much – the australian psyche is saved

it blows my mind that there is more than one australian that watches this rubbish while 2 great shows (PTTR, NCIS) are on at the same time

  5. Im sick of the repeat episodes, but its still generally better than the alternatives at 7, 7.30 and 8.

Remember it was a public holiday in Melbourne with the Cup, so lots of viewers may have been partying instead 🙂

  6. I really like the show, but there is a limit to how many times that repeats can be watched! And the fact that they are all out of order doesn’t help.

We turned back to NCIS last night.

  7. It’s a tough timeslot with 3.3 million watching other shows on the other commercial networks. Tuesday’s 2 1/2 Men may get the flick but Monday and Wednesday airings won’t. No doubt that 2 1/2 Men will be the most popular program tonight.

Nine should have moved RPA to Tuesdays with new episodes of The Gift and Amazing Medical Stories.

  8. Hear, hear, Nathan.

Personally, last night I watched the Will and Grace episode. Probably 2nd time I’ve seen it, versus about 3rd or 4th time I’d seen the Three n Half Men ep.

  9. What you also didn’t mention is that the 7pm repeat rated at around 1.1 million. I don’t think the show’s popularity has necessarily waned… yet…

  10. Yet a repeat on Wed gets 1.5m.

There’s no doubt some truth in your logic, yup. But if it’s only getting 800,000 Nine will know not to flood the schedule with it. McLeod’s Daughters got more than that.

  11. this makes me smile hopefully the crowds don’t return after the summer

7 and ten should put on their quality comedies in primetime during summer to show Aus what a real comedy is: office, 30 rock, boston, earl reruns, scrubs

  12. Thank the Lord!!!!!!!!!!!!

hope this starts the trend. shame it took all year.

i havn’t kept track but surely there are re-reruns and threepeats going around how many more times people can watch the same ep. and enjoy it.
