AFIs: It’s Industry Night

Can Enough Rope take out the AFI's Best Light Entertainment show just days before it ends its run on the ABC?

Tonight is “Industry Night” at the AFI Awards, where craft awards are given out in the first of a two-night shebang at Melbourne’s Princess Theatre.

Only Saturday night, the glitzy affair, will be aired in a delayed telecast on the Nine Network.

Julia Zemiro hosts tonight’s affair which will also see the awards given out for:

Children’s television:
* Animalia. Ewan Burnett & Murray Pope. Network Ten
* Blue Water High (Series 3) Noel Price & Dennis Kiely. ABC
* Double Trouble. Rachel Clements & Terry Jennings. Nine Network
* H2O – Just Add Water (Series 2). Jonathan M. Shiff & Joanna Werner. Network Ten

Light Entertainment television:
* Enough Rope with Andrew Denton. Bernice Toni, Polly Connolly, Jon Casimir & Megan Brownlow. ABC
* The Gruen Transfer. Jo Wathen & Jon Casimir. ABC
* RocKwiz. Ken Connor, Joe Connor, Peter Bain-Hogg & Brian Nankervis. SBS
* Spicks and Specks (Series 4). Anthony Watt. ABC

Despite the tough contest in Light Entertainment (including a show with the evening’s host), surely this has to go to Enough Rope. After all the series draws to a close on Monday night.

The AFI Awards airs 9:30pm Saturday on Nine.

Press Release:
The celebrations begin on Friday night (5 December) with the L’Oréal Paris 2008 AFI Industry Awards presented by Digital Pictures. Hosting this night will be the witty and wonderful Julia Zemiro, best known for her role at the helm of SBS quiz show Rockwiz.

For many in the industry, this is the best party of all; a less formal and sometimes irreverent event that celebrates the essential talents of the people behind the cameras. This year, 700 guests will attend the event at Melbourne’s Princess Theatre, where twenty awards will be given out – including those for cinematography, editing, sound, music, production design, costume design, lighting and visual effects.

Also announced on this night are the AFI Awards for children’s television, light entertainment television series, and awards celebrating achievements in documentary production, short film and animation. The AFI Raymond Longford Award will also be presented on this night – a discretionary award recognising an individual for their substantial and long-term contributions to the industry.
